Is a suburbanite and suburban resident always the same thing?

The place where you just happen to hang your hat isn't everything..

So just how long have you lived in Chicago?

Oh, I'm a suburbanite, definitely. But Alacran has only lived in an inner ring suburb for a few years.

Well there are grey areas. No doubt. But he still technically lives in the burbs. He may not be "from the burbs", but he lives there even if it is Maywood or whatever.

Is there something derogatory about the word "suburbanite"? I thought it just meant someone who lived in the suburbs. I'm proud of where I live.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, and have the same feelings as you.

I always found it an ambigous inquiry anyways, is it where I was born? Where I was schooled? Where I lived the majority of my life? Where I live now? Depending on the definiton it could be "Chicago, Chicagoland, NW Burbs, etc..." so I usually just say Chicago area.

I know some people consider this to be untrue, but I get annoyed when Rockford people say they are from Chicago or the burbs, I think they should say "Rockford."

Also since someone brought it up it got me thinking, I don't think I have ever answered that question with "Illinois" however, and I doubt I ever will....Just doesn't sound right

I lived in Chgo. for 38 years, so I don't feel guilt in saying I'm from Chicago.

I lived most of my life in the city.
I feel more comfortable in the city.
I know more streets, more restuarants, have more memories in the city, know the in an and outs of public transportation. I know what it's like to be a student there, know about all the mandatory hassles people go through there.

I just feel like I know Chicago.

I go downtown like once or twice a week, it's only like 10-15 minutes on the expressway or I can hop on the blue line in forest park one mile away from where I live.
But I deff. go visit people in neighborhoods more.

Chicago isn't some far off foreign unknown land to me.

And I didn't say I don't live in the burbs.
I just said I'm not from them.

I LIVE IN THE SUBURBS

There, so you guys won't say I didn't say it.
