Default Tonelli's in Northbrook

Tonelli's in Northbrook (Waukegan & Shermer). We freeze their pizza to bring back with us to Seattle every time we go visit. Yum-o! Best ever- not just their pizza, but everything. I've been going there for about 30 years. You won't be disappointed.

Best basic Italian: La Bella in Oak Park. There's a lot of other excellent local places in the area I live (Armand's, Jim & Pete's) so this is kind of a toss up. La Bella is smaller but really consistently good. Had it Friday and leftovers on Sunday.

Best gourmet Italian: La Piazza in Forest Park. One of those places where you look at the menu and think--hmm, that sounds weird--and then you eat it and can't believe how good it is

Best Kitschy Place: Italian Village downtown (the upstairs restaurant). Still a great date place, especially if you get a booth.

I think that one is among the better ones they have.

I ate at Calabria almost every day. I absolutely love that place. Great food, friendly people, great neighborhood. Parking is an issue though lol. But it's worth it!

I usually dined inside there, only thing I really took home was the salads or a simple sandwich for a snack or something.

Cafe Bionda would be my pick. Both south side and north side location serve up some great gravy. Here is a link to their dinner menu.

I'm sorry, but I left hungry after a $300+ dinner for two at Spiagga. And that was after scarfing down lots of bread... IMHO it is OVERRATED!!

I like Tratorria Trullo in Lincoln Square (on North Lincoln near Western). Great food

I had spaghetti and meatballs in the one on south State a few weeks ago, pretty good. I don't know how many of our fellow city-data folks eat spaghetti when they go out though.
