Guys. This is due to inaction by the executives in charge of Chicago and Illinois. I can pretty much guarantee you the Police departments and officers do not support "standing down". Really instead of standing down, Lightfoot and pritzker should just have them not show up at all. It's really the same thing. The MSM does not even show people what is really going on in Chicago. It is pure lawlessness. No attempt to stop any looting. I'd hate to own stock in any of the insurance companies that ultimately will bear the cost of this.

What animals? Sheep, goats? First start with the realization that looters are people. You're thinking of getting a gun? I already have several. Now, do you want to raise simple burglary to gun fights? Is that a workable plan?
We have to examine and learn from 1968. This whole protest is about police treatment -- what effect do you think it would have for them to start knocking heads? Look, the police can't be everywhere or prevent all property destruction, can they? Wanting a muscular response is a silly, immature way to dealing with the unrest.

If the police, National Guard or military start killing folks in the street we will have generations of unrest and problems. The property damage now is going to raise insurance rates and play havoc with my property value but we need to hold down the damage. There is always a danger in making things worse.

Police officers don't support the fatal arrest tactics in Minneapolis.

in anatomy only. They act like animals so treat them like animals. Do whatever is necessary to contain them. Lock them in a cage, give them a good beating if that is needed to subdue them and send the message that looting stores in Chicago is not a fun time, and finally if they are threatening people's lives they may need a bullet. We must not allow a force of evil to rampage through the city.

The only message being sent right now is one of weakness which is why the destruction continues.

Non-human animals do not act like this. Only human aminals do

You use riot control gear and tactics. Tear gas, rubber bullets, bean bag loads, tasers, mace, battons, water cannons, etc. It is not rocket science. Let me know if you would like a few links that show how casual the "protesting" is going on in Chicago and Philly.

These are people that are there for the thrill of looting and free sh*t. 95% of them are there for other reasons. These types of folks need a wake up call.

It is more like the flash mobs that plagued Chicago CTA stations 5-10 years back. Groups of youths would pre-plan their wild-ings on social media. Very similar if you watch the social media channels. They need the spanking their parents never gave them. It's way beyond protesting police brutality.

@Manigault - I do agree that police departments have been highly militarized in the last 3 decades, but a police officer will pretty much treat a white, black, latino, or asian thug the same way. Not right at all, just the reality. Anyone remember the NY shooting where cops shot 44 times at a black man and hit him 19 times? It turns out that is how officers are trained. They will empty their entire magazine. I don't doubt that current police departments give their officers a lot of leeway when dealing with any perp that resists arrest or at all. I'm not sure its a race thing.

This is not going to stop because nobody is stopping them and they all know it!

You could suggest a groups form like this.... Sadly I can imagine what a confrontation would actually look like.

You don't have to go far from that gentrified neighborhood till you are in the hood.

This is a **national** issue. Every single major city in the U.S. has had this going on this last week. To conflate the local and the national does not help either.

You live near Chicago and you don't own a gun?

Silly Rabbit. What's that they say about "Better to be judged by twelve than carried by six"? Or, "When seconds count, the police are minutes away".

You are responsible for your own safety. The cops are there to investigate after the fact, if they arrive in time to help you, it's mere luck, especially when their services are in such high demand. Also, your door needs to be sturdy enough that it takes a noisy minute or two to gain entry, to give you time to shake off the cobwebs and move to a defensible position.
