I have never attempted to take an interest to hockey. I do not have anything against it, nobody was around to teach me rules, strategy, or anything related to hockey.

First time I ever watched an entire game? Yeah, it was last Saturday night. Am I going to stick around as a fan? Bit more difficult being in Charlotte than Chicago to do that.

I will not go out and buy a jersey or t-shirt to profess some sort of love affair for the team. I don't even own a Packers jersey and I've been following them for over 15 years.

It's been fun to watch and learn. Not having a clue what's going on can make it more enjoyable than constantly criticizing what's being done.

It's actually a sweater not a jersey in hockey

Responding to the "bandwagon fan" part of this thread:

There are two kinds of bandwagon fans and one of them is very annoying while another is actually welcomed (at least in my eyes):

-The latter fanbase are the fans who, whether it be because the Blackhawks have not only been God awful but were a franchise being run into the ground or the fact that the games weren't on television or any of the other number of reasons that they were voted the worst franchise in sports, are now taking an interest. These fans, however, are taking a genuine interest. They are learning the game, learning the strategies, learning the players, etc. I have a friend like this who enjoys the game but doesn't understand what a forecheck is or things like that; however, he is interested in learning and has done so.

-The second type of fan is the one who buys a shirt or some other Blackhawks merchandise, wears it, and pretends like he/she knows everything. They sit in the stands/watch at the bar and pay attention to everything but the game. They cannot pronounce the names. They get angry when the players do not chase down every puck dumped into the zone (instead of asking why -because they need a line change).

I just think it's nothing but a good thing to have people cheering for the team. Some people will be mildly interested this year because of the hoopla, and will go back to ignoring the Hawks as soon as the series ends... And that's okay. It's their right to pay attention when they want to. And frankly, "die hard" sports fans have strange priorities anyway.

This game sucks... The Hawks look like they gave up. They have GOT to start getting more output from their offensive stars. And what's with the sloppy defense tonight? Giroux was just sitting there behind Niemi all night long.

It looked like they had no sense of urgency whatsoever.

They seemed to have a sense of urgency at the end of the game... Why couldn't they get a barrage of shots off like that earlier? Was it the fact that Philly was in a conservative defensive mode? They need to overwhelm that goalie in the next game.

Still not impressed with our play since the Playoffs even began. Wait, there was ONE game against VAN that I thought was good... the rest? Nothing special. We barely clung on against NSH, VAN, and Niemi pretty much got us past SJS. Now we've only beat Philly the first 2 games by a hair, went to OT and lost game 3, then got soundly trounced last night. Dang right we all better be worried.

I think it's better to not make it to the finals than it is to lose the finals. Imagine if this were the Cubs... People would be suicidal.
