God hovers over the deep and says let there be light and the light is good and God calls the light day and the darkness night. There was an evening and there was a morning - the first day.
The sun however, is not created until day 4. How can you have a daytime and nighttime without the sun?
Plus, it seems the Earth is created before the rest of the universe. It says on day 4 the sun, moon and stars are created.
The easy answer would be to say back in Moses' day, the earth was the center of the universe.
But let's get spiritual; "time" did not become an issue until the fall of man - God lives outside of time, and so was the earth until the knowledge of good and evil entered.
We see another cart-before-the-horse moment when the sun and moon stood still in Joshua 10 - wouldn't the earth need to stop spinning for the sun to be "still"? Nope, nothing's impossible with God.
Excellant..You are learning to ask the right questions..the idea is NOT to accept any ANSWER that isn't reasonable or actually solves the problem. Avoid those answers that demand you accept what is written without question and those who tell you DOUBT is of the mythical devil.

The bible got a LOT of things wrong...starting with Genesis and ending with Revelations. With lots of wrongness in between.
Just focus on the bits that make sense and dismiss the rest. That's what wise Christians do.

Revelation says that there will be no need for a sun in the New Heaven and Earth because God will be the light. So...why would it be needed in Genesis 1?

Except it would seem a real and factual based explanation from his followers?
For a guy that acts as if he is the smartest guy in the room, you should at least try to get the names of the books of the Bible correct.
Oh puh-leeze. Many Christians, including pastors I know, slip up and call it Revelations instead of Revelation. It seems to be instinctual to our spoken language to do so. Technically, I suppose it should be "The Revelation", which would make it easier to remember "no s".
