No doubt, many Catholics are ignorant of the Church's teachings.
I do kneel, and even occassionally prostrate in prayer.
I try never to "pray to" anyone or anything.
However, idolitary is a sin we all suffer from, and it is possible that "images" even in the interior of my mind, sneek in between me and God.
As a matter of fact, what is appropriate to even think of during prayer?
Is an "image" we conjur up of Christ appropriate? Is guided mediatition idolitry? These are not simple questions with simple answers.
As a Catholic, I appreciate the richness of imagery,the smells, and the feel of our liturgy.
It's all good, provided it leads my to Christ.
It's like when you cook using seasonings and spices, it can help build up an appetite even if you do not feel hungry. For me sometimes it's listening to Gregorian chants , it calms me down and puts me into a more prayerful state.

Speaking of those chants, those who are distracted by imagery, should try a trappist monestary.

Depending on my argument, I could pick scripture that could defend ANYTHING.
I'll just have to agree to disagree.
God is against worshipping anything that is not Him.
That statement is absolute.
There is no if's, buts, or maybes..
There are NO SCRIPTURES that will disprove it.
Your only article is a bunch of commentaries...not verses.
Worshipping anything that is not God is idolatry.

Then it is a good thing that Catholics do not worship priests, or dead people, or anyone but God.
We look at statues as a representation of who they present in our minds. I bow down in front of a crucifix of Jesus Christ all the time. People bow down to kings all the time, does not mean they worship them, it is a sign of respect. Just as I would bow down before a king out of respect, I would bow down before a statue of Mary as a sign of respect, not worship.
Don't forget the Japanese. They bow to each other all the time!
True, but these protestants, who follow religions that do not even resemble Christianity, will refuse to grasp their minds around that.
