Personally, I don't like Gold Star at all. I DO enjoy Skyline or Empress quite a bit.

BTW - to Eric G. (the OP), it must be a while since you've been back to your native Columbus area.. seems like Skyline, like UDF and Graeters have made their way north to Capital City. I tried a cheese coney at a Columbus Skyline a few months ago; the chili was identical to that we enjoy in Cincinnati, the hot dog, however was a little different and made the coney taste a bit strange -- still good, but different.

A number of years ago I visited my oldest daughter outside of Washington DC, actually in Reston, VA near the Dulles Airport. A local restaurant we visited advertised they had Cincinnati Chili. I could not resist asking for the owner/manager and requesting whether any of them had actually been to Cincinnati - boy was it bad.

If you don't mind the 70s truck stop feel, Pleasant Ridge Chili is the best that I've had in Cincinnati in my short time here (natives can argue if they wish). I like their coneys with the works.

I'm a Skyline man myself, but I believe in trying something before I knock it.

With that said, West Side Chili on Glenway (next to the Aaron's) isn't too bad. Camp Washington Chili is pretty darn good too. Gold Star is so-so in my opinion, but it'll do in a pinch.

Believe it or not...the "coneys" Brentwood Bowl on Winton Road makes are pretty tasty. If anyone ever goes bowling there, they should give it a try.

Never tried Pleasant Ridge before. I might have to make it up that way sometime. Same goes for Price Hill and Dixie in Newport, Ky.

I am Native to Cincinnati and was raised on Chili, my fav is Skyline but will not turn down Goldstar, there is a difference in taste just depends on your preference, you should try both-ask for extra chili. Enjoy!

My favorite Cincinnati chili for years was the old Stegner's Chili which was available in a can. Worthmore is pretty decent also and half the price as the canned Skyline product. Unfortunately, Stegners is out of business.

That's very interesting. I've been going to Brentwood for years and have not heard one thing about their food. I'll have to try these coneys some time.
