How can Augusta be nowhere near the level of Madison, but you mention Augusta in the same tier as Greenville .... Greenville's MSA is 100k larger than Madison and the CSA is over 1 million people...

Raleigh, Madison, and Richmond do have tons of construction, but not on the level of Augusta btw 2010-2017...
Who the hell cares about construction and why do you keep beating this point to death? Augusta had the slowest growth rate of the 4 metros being discussed, not to mention the city population is actually in decline.

Why do you keep bringing up something that's already been discussed?? I already discussed the city population on the first page. Who the hell cares if Augusta lost some population between 2000-2005?? The city population is growing and has been steadily since 2005.

The slowest growth rate from 2000-2009??? But were living in the year 2010 and the decade 2010-2020 is going to be a whole diffrent story. Comparing the Augusta between 2000-2009 to Augusta of 2010 is laughable..

And the actual city population of Augusta 194,343 in 2009... Wiki is never a good source to

Yes, I'm comparing the new construction/infrastructure at Plant Vogtle, Fort Gordon, Medical District, and SRS to anything in Madison, Raleigh, and Richmond. Obviously you have no idea about the construction underway in Augusta.

The dollar volume of new Southeast residential(first 2 months of 2010)...

1. Tampa
2. Atlanta
3. Raleigh
4. Orlando
5. Charlotte
6. Miami
7. Jacksonville
8. Charleston
9. Augusta
10. Columbia

Dude, how can you compare a few months of construction to what's been going on in Richmond, Madison, and Raleigh for years now? Augusta is just now getting hip to the game. Be proud of your city's progress but honestly, those lists you're using don't mean much in the grand scheme of things.

Well your explanation conflicts with the population stats that are currently available. Why do you think Augusta is poised for such huge growth when it's growing the slowest of the bunch? Do you have the ability to see into the future? Do you think the other cities are just going to sit on their hands during the next decade?

True, months of time don't show the whole picture...

Okay let's compare what we know is coming to Raleigh, Madison, and Richmond by 2017 to Augusta?? That's a total of 7 years...

Actually my explanation makes perfect sense. The 2009 city population is higher compared to the 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008...

How do you know Augusta is growing the slowest? You showed me stats from 2000-2009... The latest census is going to cover July 2009 to July 2010 and not a entire decade..

Augusta has a bunch of government-related and education-related construction coming down the pipeline. We get that. The other cities are much more private-sector oriented, so there's no way to know what's coming within the next seven years to those cities. Even comparing what Augusta has coming to what those cities already have, Augusta would still come up quite short. Those projects aren't going to make Augusta one of the fastest-growing metros in the entire country like Raleigh. No F500 companies are involved, and Richmond has several. They're not going to make Augusta a quintessential college town with progressive politics like Madison. Accept Augusta for what it is and stop trying to make it into something it's not.

Dude, stats from 2000-2009 are the latest available. And you're delirious if you think 2009-2010 is going to somehow make Augusta the fastest-growing out of the bunch.

Sorry to say it, but you really make Augusta look bad with all of these comparisons with cities out of its league. Madison is a little more understandable since it and Augusta are of similar size but Madison is still a much more progressive city on just about every front.

In my earlier post I never said Augusta would be the fastest growing.... I asked EastSideMike how did he figure Augusta is growing the slowest??

Augusta is not trying to be Raleigh, Richmond, or Madison. The city clearly has it's own seperate identity. There are plenty of private-sector developements in Augusta.

How am I making Augusta something it's not??? Economist are the one's predicting Augusta's economy is going to double by 2015-2016... A metro of 535k will have over $24 billion poured into the economy by 2016-2017...

"You're talking about almost doubling the size of the region's economy," said Mark Thompson, the Cree-Walker Chair of Business Administration at Augusta State University''.

Nortonguy, while we understand the love you have for your metro, its unfair to compare it to metros that are obviously not in the same league. If you want a true comparison maybe you should compare it to places like Huntsville, Lexington, and Shreveport.
