I would imagine that moving parking into the center part of the building, it would allow more retail/restaurants/bars/etc to be placed in the base of these new high-rises. Have developers been taking advantage of this opportunity?
It seems like they are trying, but the area I was in still seemed a bit lacking, the use of the garage hid the structure but still afforded the same car usage. And I still end up getting in his car (his choice) to drive even a half mile. But the concept is really cool, and the building is lined with some retail on the main floor, but more of a back street a block or so from the main strip. I think there was dry cleaner and deli of sorts from what I recall. I just like the concept of free parking, it would save me nearly $500 bucks a month to put my car to bed in the evenings. Unfortunatly I need my car to traverse North Jersey on a regular basis

I think I know where your friend lives. Is this right across from the Lenox MARTA station, adjacent to a black glass 35 story office tower?

^^^ In my apartment in Austin during the school year, I figured out what street I lived on in the second semester... as the same with my roommates/friends.
I just normally go off landmarks, I'm terrible at having street names memorized... LOL.

I do the same exact thing. In trips to Chicago, New York...and even sometimes when I'm in Boston, I won't know the address of where I am intending to go, but I'll see a certain skyscraper, etc and think "It's right next to that. Walk there now!" haha

Yeahhh, when I'm staying at my place in downtown Chicago it's even harder because it's more grid like, with so many streets. Austin is so spread out compared to that, easier to have it memorized when there's less of it.
Luckily my fascination with architecture makes it so that way I memorize a building and just go from there.
I'm glad I'm not the only one like that though. I literally felt special ed even saying it publicly in a post.

It has it's advantages, and then I end up at the gas station every few days... and the advantage them starts to diminish. But it's still convenient in many ways to me. I don't know which lifestyle I'd rather have more to think about it Chicago/Houston.... need to find a middle ground.
I wouldn't mind, but if you've been to Houston & Austin recently you'll notice how there is a boat load of cops everywhere patrolling the streets now...
It is MUCH, MUCH easier to get to any part of Manhattan that you'd actually WANT to go to from Hoboken than ANY part of the Bronx. Much easier.
The people I know from the Bronx marvel at how easy it is to get to Manhattan from Hoboken/Jersey City. There is a reason that it costs MUCH more to live in Hoboken/Jersey City than 99.9% of the Bronx.
Also, very few people I know who live in the Bronx take public transportation (or walk, LOL, please) to Manhattan. They almost ALWAYS drive. In Hoboken and Jersey City, if somebody were to suggest DRIVING to Manhattan, they'd be looked at as if they had 3 heads.
KONY, that being said -- there is no reason to bring the Bronx into a discussion about Hoboken and Buckhead.
Let me state first that i wasnt the one to bring the bronx up in this discussion
As far as getting to a spot in manhattan that you actually want to go to is ridiculous and ignorant. You must be one of those people who think manhattan stops after 96 street right? Who cares either way you don't live here anyway so your opinion is cute and idaho. Bottom line is the bronx is the closest piece of land to manhattan thus a large part of the southern section has easy access to manhattan. Hoboken is one square mile, common sense tells me that there aren't nearly as much transit options
99.9%, The only real bad part of the bronx is the southwest so that number is wrong.Theres million dollar mansions in the bronx. Jersey city is NJs second largest city and one that leeches off a place like manhattan, just like hoboken. You would expect for their rents to be high
And please stop acting like you know what new yorkers do. Saying bronxites dont takee public transit to manhattan is uncalledforly absurd. The reason the bronx transportation is on the level it is, is to take people back and forth to manhattan. Plz stop trying to inform me , someone who actually lives here, and these poor people reading this about what new yorkers do
And if i had to pay an eight dollar toll i would look at that person with eight heads forget three. If we live anywhere close to public transit that it(hoboken)

You stay looking for a reason to be offended.
