Ft Worth is a larger city than Philly which is larger than DC, while this is also true it really does not speak well to any types of comparisons
At street level, how are Manhattan and D.C. different in their downtown's other than there being less people? Both have urban canyons for miles and grand boulevards without surface street parking.

Dude, seriously stop, Philly is closer on feel at the street level and is not close

The urban canyons in DC feel nothing like NYC, DC has its own thing, it is unique in that aspect but it feels nothing like NYC

Yea, I didn't say anything besides there being more parkland as a percentage in DC. It was odd that people were bringing up a fairly irrelevant point like Fairmount Park.

Anyhow, the answer to the question is no. Not for a long while.

I think it was in response to Rock Creek and it being the population density differential, fair point though and wasnt meant as any personal afront, I qouted just to make a point and yours was the most recent I saw on topic, well of sorts

Center city is too small to be compared to D.C. or NYC. If you blink while driving through it, you will miss center city. What is the sq. mile size of center city?

To equal the size of D.C.'s downtown, it would take three Philly center cities. When the SW downtown in D.C. is done, it will take 6 Philly center cities to make D.C.'s downtown.

For starters, the architecture is much more interesting in NYC (and Philly for that matter), secondly, NYC tends to incorporate residential/commercial/business a lot better than DC.

DC is a cool city IMO, I have lived here over two years, but you hype up the city way too much. Sure dc is experiencing growth now, but I think the city is losing it's identity very quickly.

In terms of vibrancy and culture and overall "urbaness", there are several cities ahead of DC.

You realize that picture is pointed the wrong direction

Center City is considered a 1 mile by 2 mile area, so 2 square miles but your pictures points the wrong direction actually, but yes the DC footprint is bigger, it always has been, you have a lot of university city and the Art museum district and some of fairmont park in your picture. But ok you win it will cover a larger sq milage. Great Valley on the 202 corrider (a business district) covers a 15 square mile area, so yes that surpasses Philly too.

these give a little better perspective of the size of center city

For perspective the Delaware River is about 4/10ths of a mile wide where the Bridge crosses in the center right of this below

The size to me is part of the allure of center city, so much packed into a small area, extremly walkable and vibrant and seemless in integration of commercial, residential, and retail

Center City/University City Philly extends from the Delaware River at Front Street to around 45th street in West Philly. 4 1/2 Miles E-W.

2 miles N-S (Spring Garden to South St).

Blink your eye and you will miss it? Haha it will take you an hour drive to go from 2nd street to 45th via one of the downtown streets like Walnut or Chestnut.

Center City Philly is one of the densest CBD's in the USA.
