Chicago hands down. St. Louis has some interesting neighborhoods (the architecture looks to me more French than German). Cincy has cool looking neighborhoods. The rest of the towns on the list?--meh.

That's actually a pretty common attitude from people in the Chicagoland area. A lot of people from Chicago view there city as a misplaced east coast city rather than an overgrown Indy, St. Louis, Milwaukee etc. Despite the size Chicago is still a lot more similar to its Midwestern counterparts than any east coast city. A bit every Midwestern city can be found in Chicago.

Residential Architecture

1. Chicago - sheer scale and diversity unmatched obviously
2. St. Louis - best assortment of historic neighborhoods, would top Chicago if it didn't have so much blight and was larger
3. Cincinnati -most beautiful collection of rowhouse neighborhoods in the Midwest, Over The Rhine is amazing

All the other Midwestern cities have pretty indistinguishable architecture in my humble opinion

I view Chicago, Detriot, St. Paul and the like as Midwestern. Cities like Cinci, St. Louis, and Indianapolis feel half Southern, half Midwest.

"half southern"? st. louis? not exactly sure what you mean by that, but perhaps you've never actually been to the south. st. louis feels culturally like detroit, cleveland, pittsburgh much moreso than memphis, nashville or atlanta.

I haven't been to St. Louis, but given the age of the city and its German influence, I'm sure it parallels Cincinnati quite nicely (which I chose for the poll).

Not to be funny, but have you actually been to the South?

St. Louis is definitely one of the top ones.

Colts is right...you don't sound like you've ever been to the south. If you have, you obviously haven't ever visited these other cities. If you compare Louisville to these other cities, it feels like another planet in terms of culture, architecture, and mentality compared to say, Chicago or Detroit.
