Famous streets - now you are moving the goal post....you said Haight/Ashbury is just as well known as any other street in the other cities listed, now your saying "outside of the obvious LA and Chicago ones", see what you did there? I would say Pennsylvania Avenue is more famous than Haight Ashbury
Sorry I skimmed through your OP without reading all of it, I'm sorry for that. I was excited to see what episode of Phily boosting we would have on another thread so I couldn't help myself. I'm as addicted to that comedy as a fat kid to twinkies. I hope you understand.

Ok so elimate the Sharks, my fault bringing them up anyway. Burritos aren't synonymous with San Francisco as far as image goes, true but our local burritos can go toe to toe with any local food in any of these cities.

I'm not shifting the goal post. TBH LA is the only one of these cities that has the credibility for famous streets, get serious man, you really think there's a street in Phily as known as Wilshire, Rodeo, Venice, or Santa Monica? Maybe if you did cocaine and convinced yourself then yes. Otherwise Boston, Phily, and San Francisco are for better or worse in the same league with one another on famous streets and with the appeal of Newbury I give the nod to Boston. Not so sure Pennsylvania Avenue (I stayed on that street in DC a month ago) is more known than Newbury or Haight but at this point I don't even care about arguing streets. You have the choice to argue for the sake of arguing or a choice to stop, I'm going to have to stop on this one.

Also as far as streets in SF I'd say LOMBARD ST is the most famous and well known by far. I'm not even sure if some people know Haight and Ashbury are streets as most people usually refer to them as the neighborhood. But Lombard is featured in pics a lot more than the Haight/Ashbury street signs, has a cable car run right at the top, and has tons of tourists taking pics of it all the time. That's not the case with Haight/Ashbury really. People make it a point to drive down the "Crookedest Street in the World".

Chicago Deep Dish Pizza, Chicago Hot Dog.

San Fran Clearly lacks an icon identifying the city unless you're a Bridge Geek, see what I did there? Sounds like you are the one trolling.
Ask 100 average people around the world to identify the Golden Gate Bridge in one photo and the Willis Tower in the other. I wonder what is more identifyable?

Maaan I kept reading and reading this argument about "known streets" and SF and saw no one mentioning Lombard Street and I was getting so excited to be the one who does then it got mentioned while I was busy eating sushi and a burrito on Alcatraz.

EDIT: P.S. This was just the first link that popped up on google when I typed in "most famous streets in america".. Was a top 10 list and Lombard Street was mentioned in a separate section headed "One More" which I assume means it was an honorable mention.

This is the second link that came up in the search and it is a list of 6 streets. There is a street from SF on the list but it is Vermont Street not Lombard Street! My dad always told me that Vermont Street was actually “the crookedest street in the world" too.

Obviously, my comment was tongue in cheek.

All things considered, the most complete list of cities is:

Chicago
San Fran
Philly
Boston
LA
DC

Funny seeing this thread, was just watching an episode of "no reservations" with Anthony bourdain in Chicago, and he called Chicago the only other true metropolis in the country.

The French dip sandwich, the taquito and the California roll were invented here, and that's just tip of the iceberg. Since this is city limits only, I can't point out that the first McDonald's opened in SoCal, and that the oldest one remaining is in Downey, but it's safe to say that L.A. played a huge roll in shaping the modern burger joint. Since this isn't Tootyourownhornville, few people know this. Food trucks are distinctly L.A. too.

I thought the first McDonalds opened up in some town in Illinois?
