The fact of the matter is Miami doesn't have any of that. They aren't even in the conversation of best hiphop cities.
Well I agree that Miami doesn't have its own scene, my point was simply that I would prolly hear a sound in Miami that's been almost effectively taken out of rotation and that's the southern third coast sound. That's it. I think LAs scene is kinda insular.

Like all regional sounds it's insular and varies by opinion, but the south isn't copying LA, it's the other way around. When I first heard Mercy I thought it was a straight up tune from Houston. Same with Swimming Pools. No one in Houston or Memphis or ATL is trying to bring back G funk.
The Coastal sounds to me try way too hard.
Let me give you a funny story. I used to hate southern rap and thought I was doing myself a favor by not listening to it. I only used to listen to Dead Prez, Nas, Mos Def, Tribe Called Quest, Wu, and all the groups that had a smart message. I relayed my list to my English professor in college who scoffed at those groups. He was a white hipster from PA, I think Philly. He said since moving to Houston he fell in love with the southern sound from ugk to 3-6 Mafia. He says he can't even listen to the preaching ramblings of those other groups usually from the coasts and their garbled attempts at sounding enlightened. He said he gathered more out of the struggles in inner city hoods and the trappings of the hustle from acts lyrics by Pimp C, Scarface and Project Pat. He pointed me to Z-Ro and I never looked back.
I can barely stand to hear Nas or out here in LA I can barely stand to listen to the faux trap sound or the pretentious attempts at rapping. My two cents. Ever since I saw that goofy hipster professor bumping DJ Screw in his Prius LOL I knew this music was more significant to those who give it a chance.

LOL SAUCE WAKA & TRAVIS SCOTT kills this entire argument. They are exactly that and they're some of the two biggest artist from Houston. Le$ sounds like houston Curren$y. I know dudes from Houston that don't like travis because he doesn't sound like he's from Houston.

So basically your argument is because the Houston scene right now sucks that it didn't have an impact when it was at its peak? And some H-town artists still throw down like Trae the Truth, Kirko Bangz, Lil Keke and Paul Wall. What have you been listening to? It's clear you just listen to mainstream VEVO YouTube, radio stuff and judge all the music out now based on that. Typical LA rap fan. All he knows is the main.
Anyways I forgot that what played a big influence in the emerging young new Chicago rap scene is the trap sound from Houston. Watched a video the other week about the origins of the new music and how the Houston sound influenced it heavily. So please stop acting as though it had no impact from Chicago to NYC to their silly attempts at replicating it in LA. This is why people from other cities don't give a hoot what LA people say about rap. They're trying to act as though what it's in the main and on LA radio is the gold stuff and all other local groups are just kitsch.

Yes, I would love for you tell me some Houston artist who are Current. And please I do not just listen to Mainstream stuff.... tell me about the CURRENT Houston rap scene. Don't get mad casue no one outside of Houston listens to Kirko Bangz and Paul Wall anymore.
I never said that other places didn't have any impact at all. Some of my favorite rappers are from Chi Town. Lucki Ekc$, Mick Jenkins, Lil Herb, Lil Bibby, Chance etc. NYC too... Dave East & Da$h being what I like that most. Houston is not great right now. They were in their heydey bust most of you guys sound like your from ATL.

I just got done listening to this Sauce Walka fella you cited and I laughed my butt off. How old are you Jamil? If you go by this then you must be real young dude. Especially if you think him and Travis Scott represent the Houston rap scene. If you want to include then then fine but you also have to include who Houston really counts as repping them:
