I know. It's amazing what an expert that person is on EVERYTHING.
I went for Detroit because its more racially diverse and has to deal with problems that Mn-St Paul does not have.
on another note- Portland having the 18th biggest GDP being the 25th largest metro is fairly impressive
Tell that to all those Chicagolanders who clog Michigan's towns on Lake Michigan every weekend.
Tell that to someone who grew up in Door County Wi, which has the most shoreline of any county in the US and is a vacation magnet for Chicago/Milwaukee/Minneapolis/St Louis. Or someone who was directly involved in the tourism there. Or someone whose family has been a part of said tourism for 5 generations. Wait, that's not you, that's me!
Plenty of people head to the Lake Michigan shore, and a smaller amount to Lake Superior, but that is absolutely dwarfed by the people heading to the tens of thousands of inland lakes dotted with cottages. Not even close. I would know.
