Because a single person who claims to be an expert on everything tried to push the discussion that way in terms of Detroit/MI (more Great Lakes footage) and Twin Cities/MN (more inland lakes). For whatever reason. And said person says lots of crazy stuff, so it's fun to see how far he'd go.

I know. It's amazing what an expert that person is on EVERYTHING.

Definitely not appealing to me.

Here is Beaver Island:

The water is always clear and turquoise (though too cold, even in August).

I went for Detroit because its more racially diverse and has to deal with problems that Mn-St Paul does not have.
on another note- Portland having the 18th biggest GDP being the 25th largest metro is fairly impressive

GO DETROIT!!!!

Tell that to all those Chicagolanders who clog Michigan's towns on Lake Michigan every weekend.

I feel safer in the Twin Cities but Detroit has a lot of soul and I kinda root for the underdog cities so I will say Detroit.

Just as they crowd Wisconsin's lakes every week-end.

That's 2/3rds the reason why Michiganders stick to the inland lakes most of the time.

Idk man, in West MI in the Kalamazoo area at least, South Haven is a HUGE draw in the summer which is right off Lake Michigan.

Tell that to someone who grew up in Door County Wi, which has the most shoreline of any county in the US and is a vacation magnet for Chicago/Milwaukee/Minneapolis/St Louis. Or someone who was directly involved in the tourism there. Or someone whose family has been a part of said tourism for 5 generations. Wait, that's not you, that's me!

Plenty of people head to the Lake Michigan shore, and a smaller amount to Lake Superior, but that is absolutely dwarfed by the people heading to the tens of thousands of inland lakes dotted with cottages. Not even close. I would know.
