St. Cloud, Minnesota or Eau Claire, Wisconsin?
St. Cloud. It's one of the nicer small metros and I like MN.

Johnson City, TN or Provo, UT?

DC. I absolutely love the area. Very beautiful and so much to offer in many ways.

Asheville, NC or Boise, ID?

Asheville, NC

In another close one. Asheville has picturesque setting in Blue Ridge mountains. Would provide opportunity to explore eastern US; something I have not done. Summer temps more moderate than other lower elevation southern cities and politically more moderate/possibly left of center than much of the south too. Someone I used to work with moved there and likes it.

Medford, Oregon or Harrisburg, Pennsylvania?

chessgeek, good take on Asheville. I live 1.5 hours from Asheville and have taken day trips there often for decades. I'm conservative, but there's a good mix of ideologies in the metro: City is pretty liberal, suburban areas pretty conservative, all get along pretty darn well. My wife and I just love the area.

Without the former co-worker there, would have just known it is in a pretty mountain setting. Cool! Glad to hear that you and your wife enjoy it. Imagine fall colors are gorgeous too. The famous Biltmore mansion is also there. Glad to hear people of different views get along there.

Liberal, Kansas

Probably greener than Aransas Pass. Larger city, too. Probably just slightly more to do. Reasonably near Dodge City for day trip.

Fort Collins, Colorado or Lexington, Kentucky?

The colors are great. The Blue Ridge Pkwy. runs right through town as well. Really love the area!
