St. Louis is separating itself as the most dangerous American city of this generation. It is now the first large city in this decade (2010s) to post a homicide rate of 60/100 multiple times (three) this decade; Baltimore hasn't even done that once, though I guess it isn't for lack of effort (tongue-in-cheek humor). St. Louis is just in another world, heightened 90s-era levels of violence, while traditionally violent cities like New Orleans and Detroit continue to lower their murder and violent crime rates...

Then you've got cities like Wilmington, Baton Rouge, Tulsa, Indianapolis, Louisville, Greensboro, which like Baltimore, are enduring the most violent years in their entire histories...

And still other cities such as Newark, Oakland, Washington, Atlanta, witnessing considerable declines that stands as stark contrast to their highly murderous histories...

The Orlando massacre last year contributed an unusual high murder rate. This year it has stabilized closer to its average. The same thing is happening in Vegas this year--there aren't hard numbers available but the city probably has over 200 murders this year, which would already be a 40-45% increase for the LVMPD. It will stabilize next year barring another mass casualty...

There are cities above and below average throughout the list, but not too much is alarming...

North Carolina:

Rocky Mount 11/20
High Point 18/16.22
Greensboro 42/14.63
Durham 32/12.17
Fayetteville 22/10.73
Charlotte 82/9.74
Winston-Salem 23/9.5
Raleigh 23/5.01

Greensboro has set a new city record with 42 homicides, breaking 2007's 40, though the murder rate was higher then. Neighboring High Point also has a record of 18 this year, it's previous high was like 10...

Raleigh passed last year's total of 22 last week; 2017 replaces 2016 as the most deadly year since 2008 (34). The interesting thing about Raleigh is while it is still amongst the safest large cities in the nation, this has definitely been a violent year by that city's standards. A ton of nonfatal shootings, more murders, arsons, seemingly increased drug trafficking busts. And it was a relatively quiet year until April, I believe 19 of these murders came from 4/1 to 11/30...

Virginia:

Petersburg 11/34.38
Richmond 72/32.29
Danville 11/26.19
Portsmouth 16/16.84
Norfolk 32/13.06
Hampton 17/12.59
Newport News 19/10.38
Virginia Beach 11/2.43

Richmond went 38 days murder-free from mid-October to mid-November, so whereas earlier in the year it looked like the city would hit 90 murders, now it may not even hit 80, though it's still the deadliest year since 2005...

Virginia Beach hasn't had a murder since August and could finish with 11 as it's year-end total...

Are those totals for the metro? I ask because as the last 2 homicides in the Syracuse area were in the suburbs and there have been 3 overall in the suburbs. So, I believe it is 18 for the core county(about 465,000 people).

Also, does anyone have information for Savannah, Chattanooga, Mobile, Youngstown, Lansing, Spokane, Tacoma, Columbia, San Bernardino, Huntsville, Dayton, Lubbock and Fort Wayne?
