It's fairly low for the U.S. but it's not really low by the standards of most western countries.

That is very low. I think a lot of that has to do with the impact of it being Silicon Valley with a highly educated population and low poverty. They've gentrified all of the poverty out of the area.

I don't think they have the drugs and gang problems that tend to run wild along the I55 corridor. Cities like New Orleans, Memphis, St. Louis and Chicago is really getting hit and hit hard because of that.

I also have to admit that my city is so poorly ran its not funny. The state of Missouri is also working against the citys interest as well as their own interests in making sure the residents are safe. Both St. Louis and Kansas City are hurting because of. Open carry laws hasn't worked in our favor this year at all. We've got a mess in my beloved St. Louis. Most metros in states with tough gun laws are safer then the one in Tennessee, Missouri and Louisiana.

One thing that we don't seem to recognize is the stats are not apples to apples for cities. As a MSA, St. Louis is not classified in a high crime category. We are not as safe as the Bay Area but we are not a Memphis, Anchorage, Springfield Il. (reference https://lawstreetmedia.com/blogs/cri...s-metro-areas/)

Iowa Metros are also normally quite now.

Iowa City with 150,000 people
Cedar Rapids with 260,000 people

Iowa City rarely has more than 0-1 murders. Cedar Rapids around 4.

149,000... Talk about +1M people metros...
It is a known fact that the more "rural" a metro-city gets, the lower the homicide... Talk about large metro please like let say Houston, Dallas, or Albuquerque, Memphis...
