Not unless there is serious gentrification mixed with changing how stats are taken just to make things look good.

St.Louis is an embarrassment absolutely no excuse that there are 204 homicides i hope whoever becomes the new police chief can make tremendous strides in getting that total and rate cut down drastically thats ridiculous again no excuses.

With a population of 311,000 if that theres no reason that the yearly total can't be should be between 40-60 per year you'll never get the goose egg but come on 204 is a complete black eye on the entire region and there year isn't even over yet!

Its either very lazy poor policing or very bad community crisis.

get the total under 100 and keep under 100

As a person who loves St. Louis, I totally agree.

St. Louis made top 20 last year as a city with one of the highest murder rates in the whole world, edging out a lot of cities in poor to moderate-income countries. In fact, the US was the only developed country with cities(4 to be exact) at least 300,000 in population that made it in the top 50. Sadly, St. Louis is going to make that list again(probably edging out Cape Town this time). Baltimore will also follow, probably making it into the top 25. It was 26th last year.

It isn’t fair to compare US cities to world cities. Many world cities have their best neighborhoods in the city center, or the entire city is 95% of the metro or in the case of some Brazilian cities the metro is just as bad as the city, Saint Louis and U.S cities when compared with the third world metro wise drop off the list.

Some posters to this thread will never comprehend that, and will continue to compare East Saint Louis with Rio de Janeiro. No metro area in the United States has a murder rate in the same league as a really bad third world city with a similar population.

Plus, Baltimore's suburbs on their own right are actually quite wealthy, and its proximity to the capital will lead to economic spillover from D.C. and its suburbs, into Baltimore and its suburbs (already look at Howard County). Look at all the talk of a Hyperloop and high speed rail between the two. There are civic and entrepreneurial leaders who want to see all ships rise, and Baltimore is a huge part of that in the region, as Maryland is still one of the wealthiest states in the country.

Additionally, Baltimore is beginning to gentrify, much like Philadelphia to its north. One of the tallest buildings in the city was just topped off, and it's purely residential. Purely residential skyscrapers are a sign of wealth flowing into a city and Baltimore has now completed several in the past decade. Throw in the huge tourist attraction that is the Inner Harbor and two competitive pro sports teams in America's most popular leagues (who play right next door to the Inner Harbor), and I think Baltimore will come out of this tragic "wildfire" of crime by the beginning of 2020, if not sooner. If I was a betting man, I'd say Baltimore has the best chances to "take off" again out of all the fallen legacy cities in this country, over Detroit, Saint Louis, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Memphis, etc. Under Armour, despite recent stumbles, remains a valuable company, while Johns Hopkins Hospital and University remain top-tier institutions. Proximity to D.C. and the rest of the Northeast Corridor will accelerate Baltimore's turn-around much quicker than any other struggling city in this country.
I will always think about "The wire" whenever I read about Balimore crime... Sad

40% of the 200+ homicides in the city of St Louis (300k) are resolved. 75% of 50 homicides are resolved in St Louis county (1 million). Something is wrong. We aren't seeing the big picture.
