Anyway, I voted for Albuquerque
It's up and coming, best SW city for sure.
I agree that ABQ is a desert city but so is Tucson. By its scenery, Tucson looks more like a desert city than ABQ (though the cities remind me of each other).

How is the up-and-coming growth in ABQ comparing to other cities and their growth (numbers, percentage-wise)? I know Tucson has really done more with its downtown in the past couple of years than it has in the past 20 years. Would you consider that up-and-coming?

I live in Albuquerque and I love it here, but I'm willing to admit that our downtown is certainly not one of our strong points. Though it's not vacant or terrible, up and coming would not be a term to describe it. Nob Hill holds more interest. I do like how ABQ didn't grow too quickly though. I see a bright future here as its been under the radar for so long but it's just starting to gain more noteriety and get discovered. I would like to visit Tucson, I always here comparisons drawn between ABQ and Tucson.

Why is this? I mean, there is some great beauty there, but doesn't have major league sports franchises like Phoenix does. I also apologize to any Tucson people on this thread...I have a habit of spelling it with the s first.
Since when does having a "sports franchise" determine the value of a city? Albuquerque is mid-size, exotic, has great food, great culture, great weather, great scenery , great character , great charm, there is so many things that make it so much more unique than the rest. Albuquerque captures the true beauty and charm of the Southwest, while a place like Phoenix that does have a "sports franchise" is sprawled out, uninteresting, too hot, and no character, no southwest charm, and tries too hard to be an extension of Southern Cal. As an over all package, Albuquerque without a doubt is the best Southwest city there is, if you are looking for mild four seasons, distinct food, great culture, great quality of life, and a city that has a unique personality of it's own and a city that has a more prosperous future, you will choose Albuquerque.
The Best major Desert City in the USA? Albuquerque, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Tuscon, Coachella Valley, etc...
Tucson AZ is not a Desert City as it receives 12.17 inches per year and a Desert City can only have 10.00 inches of rain per year.
Boise ID also get about the exact same amount of rainfall as Tucson AZ at 12.19 inches per year.
California has no Desert Cities because San Diego is at 10.77 inches and misses being a desert city by .77 inches of rainfall yearly .
However if you put PALMS DESERT and PALM SPRINGS together in the WINTER SEASON they woulld be a small city somewhere around 120,000 to 130,000 people strong.
You can add Reno NV to Las Vegas as it is a Desert City
Tucson gets too much rain to be classified as a Desert City over 10 inches , and if you don't like it " you have to take it up with the folks " that makes all of the rules.......the power that BE....
I voted Albuquerque, but Los Angeles would have got my voted if rightfully included.
Los Angeles is that a Joke please clue me in...........
