Exactly. It's not just the look of skyscrapers. This thread is not just about what's unique looking, but what makes a city unique. The density and amount of people and buildings is unique to NYC, period.

Going over the Manhattan bridge:
The Bart System in the Bay Area goes underground. It takes you under the Bay in West Oakland and spits you out on the other side of the Bay in SF. There is a whole lot of ear popping going on. Bart does not go through any bridges although we do have a bride that goes through an island!

I will quote the great Mark Twain. "There are only 4 unique cities in the U.S. New Orleans, San Antonio, Boston, and San Francisco".

The Disney Concert hall could easily be confused for the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao. I'm not the biggest fan of Frank Gehry's work, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

I will say that the Golden Gate and the Hollywood sign are extremely prominent and recognizable. However, I think that San Francisco is a lot more "unique" than LA in look and feel.

Think I'm going to have to disagree with Mr. Clemens on this one.
