i think a unique city is seattle (kinda being biased) its space needle, monorail and buildings are futuristic compared to all other cities in america. NYC is unique ofcource for its massive hight density and plenty of icons (empire state buildings, Chrysler building, statue of liberty etc..). chicago is unique for its super tall buidlings that make it very reconizable. then my final choice goes to San Fransisco because of all its reconizable bridges and trans america building.
About 100 or so years ago Mark Twain said that their are only 4 unique cities in the country. What do you think they are today?
Boston
New York City
Washington D.C.
Chicago
San Francisco
Though not big cities, by any means(metro. area 500,000+); I lived in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania...a very unique "linear city", nestled in narrow river valleys.
