I'll just state the obvious that highly-compensated does not map one-to-one with intelligence (or even successful) and anyone who thinks that it does has a dysfunctional value system.

good post... I'll be moving to one of those areas soon.. but won't be highly compensated. For many fields intelligence or even high education doesn't have a high correlation with actual wealth... Maybe happiness though... I am looking forward to it. I'll be happy to be lower middle class to middle class and still enjoy the area amenities (the rich also pay more to us poors)Case in point I have a friend at Peet's coffee there that brings in over 20 dollars an hour after tips.
Silly and misleading statistics; New York City holds 404,000 millionaires/CBA holds 750,000+ millionaires. Counties are silly/obsolete way to count affluence since [X County] can be 10X > than [X County] i.e. LA County 3X larger than any county in America so one would hope it would be at top ) below are the true statistics:
What the hell are you talking about? LA County isn't 3X larger than any county in America.
List of most populous counties
1. Los Angeles County California 9,878,554
2. Cook County Illinois 5,285,107
3. Harris County Texas 4,011,475
4. Maricopa County Arizona 3,990,181
5. Orange County California 2,997,033
6. San Diego County California 2,974,859
7. Kings County New York 2,528,050
8. Miami-Dade County Florida 2,387,170
9. Dallas County Texas 2,366,511
10. Queens County New York 2,270,338

If those people are so "smart" and "enlightened," then why is the US economy in the toilet?

According to the information you posted, both Los Alamos, New Mexico and Naples, Florida come in ahead of NYC and SF in terms of concentration of millionaires.
However, according to this information, SF is well below Chicago in terms of wealth.

This is priceless. So I guess all those guys at Microsoft in Seattle, Lockheed Martin in Denver, or Boeing in Chicago are just a bunch of community college drop-outs.

As further evidenced SF/NY easily trumps podunk cities i.e. Chicago when it comes to affluence/influence.
Stop lumping NYC together with SF, as if they're somehow related to one another. Shouldn't you be out making zillions instead of posting on little internet forums? I would think somebody who owns a Ferrari would make better use of their time, instead of fraternizing with lowly "poors" such as myself.
you need to recognize that your numbers for San Francisco/Oakland DO NOT include San Jose. So it somewhat misleading since San Jose is clearly part of the metro area. Silicon Valley is very wealthy and not including it knocks the Bay Area down many positions.
