Last call is just the bar! The clubs are still open until 3 or 4. Have you ever walked around U Street or Adams Morgan at 4 am? People are still out partying. Do you really need another drink at 4am?
I think you all have last call confused. Just because last call is at 2, don't mean you get kicked out at club. It's mainly just they stopped selling alcohol.
Austin is great for live bands. But if you're like me and prefer dance music, tecnho, trance, etc., and "parties" with great DJs that run until 5am or later....not so much. I don't mind a place that has a band playing until say 11pm, and then turns into a dance club after that, but I've no desire to listen to a band all night unless I'm at a concert.
You can have a great nightlife even with a last call at 2am. Most of the club nights I go to are open until about 6am (I usually leave about 4am though). They just can't serve alcohol after 2am.
Here's how Maxim Magazine sized up our town: "Recently named America's 'thirstiest' city, Milwaukee eats, sleeps and burps beer. Home to the Miller Brewing Co., Brewers ball club, and over 500 bars, it guarantees a drinking buddy and a tasty kraut-covered brat at every turn. Bottoms up!"
I just can't see how someone can say Toronto has better nightlife than DC.
I lived in D.C. for years and was back there recently. Yes nightlife has improved but it is no Montreal, Toronto, NY, Miami, Vancouver, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles and a few others.
