Nope. This comes from the DALLAS Business Journal site. So.....
What I mean is there is a link to this link on the Ft. Worth board, but not one on the Dallas board. Make sense? I don't care who "wins", I love my hometown and I like Ft. Worth, doesn't matter to me. But you're going to get more people from the Ft.Worth board than the Dallas board coming here to register their opinion, and for the most part people from Ft. Worth will vote for Ft. Worth, Dallasites will vote for Dallas. It's just a statistics thing.
Ft Worth just needs some major pro sports. FCD should have built there instead of Frisco. FCFW sounds cooler anyway.
FCFW?
... I was thinkin....
Fort Worth Law
or
Fort Worth Cyclones
This ain't Europe so at least the names of soccer teams over here can be more ... like other American sports teams.
And if Fort Worth ever does get any kind of pro sports team, I'd think MLS would be one of the best it could do. Also, WNBA and Arena Football could work if we got the proper arena for it and NOT that UFO connected to the Convention Center.
As far as one of the Big Four goes, our best bet would be NBA.
- We have the Rangers in our county, so there goes Major Leauge Baseball.
- The Stars should be the ONLY NHL franchise in all of Texas since a second Texas hockey team just wouldn't feel right.
- And as long as the Cowboys exist (their fan base is like 70% of Texas) there won't be any more NFL teams here in DFW. Besides, the 'Boys are also in our county, so technically, Fort Worth has MLB and NFL anyway.
I say NBA is Fort Worth's best shot for a Big Four franchise since it doesn't seem like the NBA focuses on more well known cities as much as the other major leauges do (i.e. Utah, Oklahoma City, Portland, Miluwakke, Orlando, and Sacramento). Also, there doesn't seem to be that much demand for NBA franchises compared to the other major leauges. I think I can count on one hand the cities that really, really want an NBA team.
BTW, I think the Clippers should move back to San Diego. Hey, it's not like L.A. will miss 'em....
The problem with trying to separate the two cities is that you also have to separate out the other cities as well.
Dallas is therefore only home to the Maverick, Stars and Mustangs.
Grand Prairie is home to Lone Star Park and the Airhogs.
The Roughriders are in Collin County.
Irving has the Byron Nelson and used to have the Cowboys.
Fort Worth is home only to the Cats, Frogs, TMS and the Colonial.
The Brahmas are in North Richland Hills.
The Rangers are in Arlington (not a part of Dallas).
The Cowboys are now in Arlington instead of Irving.
However, most of us just consider all that part of the metroplex.
FWIW, Fort Worth is also known for the Cliburn competition and the Stock Show and Rodeo. :-)
Funny how these Dallas vs Fort Worth comparisons usually get written up
A world class piano competition is "poof", not one, but two major sports teams somehow migrates into the Dallas column and check out the pictures of the skylines. I happen to think that the Dallas skyline is one of the top in the nation, but is that an excuse to put up a Fort Worth skyline picture showing what look like dead trees?
How about using a lighted night scene for both?
SMU - enrollment = 11,000
TCU - enrollment = 8,700
UT Arlington enrollment = 25,000
(oops, forgot the eighth largest University in Texas )
Biggest pluses for living in Fort Worth - it still has a small town neighborhood feel. A sense of community for the whole, that Dallas appears to lack. They don't call it "cow-city" - Fort Worth is still a "town", one known for it's 'friendly folks'.
Biggest pluses for living in Dallas - you get to see a whole lot of real purdy cars everywhere you look. While I love the Fort Worth Botanic gardens - the Dallas Arboretum beats Fort Worth hands down. Anyone who has not been there, certainly needs to go, particularly in the spring.
Dallas clearly wins on the number of Mercedes not owned by their drivers (leased, and stolen).
