If you have long term family roots here in DFW, or are really active in the church, you will like it here in this area. If you are a bar person you will do fine. It's not the most terrible set of cities, it's just not very walkable and very skimpy on culture and nature. You don't see very many people getting out and walking in DFW as a whole. Like many cities, this area is endless strip malls and clap board housing developments.

I have found that the more money I make---that is, the more money there is to spend on entertainment, etc., the more God awful boring this place becomes when looking for high quality, non bar/mall centric things to do. If I wanted to get drunk, snort coke, and do topless bars....yes, this is a great area to blow some money.

The people are not rude here, they are usually just drunk or needing to escape reality with church, escorts, or perscription drugs. This is not a lone observation---a lot of people not fitting into these categories feel misplaced here.
Why sterotype and genearlize...As far as everything you just mention the three cities you just mention have the same issue and most american cities have these same issues. Why pick on DFW when you stated this isn't inclusive to just DFW.

You just listed all the reasons I love Dallas. Great nightlife and great shopping and great opportunity in my career to make more money woo hoo!

I am not picking of DFW, but these are just musings of a very long term resident. It's boring here if you are not a drinker, into topless bars/escorts, mindless shopping, or in the church. Many cities in the US that went though thoughtless over expansion share these qualities. The north part of Austin (Round Rock, etc.) is no different, Houston is no different, OKC is no different, much of San Antonio is no different, etc.

You don't get out much or are incapable of finding friends or finding things to do. Because Houston is not like that, and I doubt Dallas is too.

I have many friends, many very well educated, that leave if they can. I do work a lot of hours running a very successful business during the worst downturn in 80 years, but I do get out. I guess I prefer a more eclectic style. Again, if a person is church loving, strip mall loving, bar loving, meth loving....then there will be no problem. If you like lots of high quality coffeehouses and interesting discourse, and general walkability, this will be hard to find here.

You do know what meth, among other drugs, strip malls, bars, and church, are readily available all over the country. Even in your favorite cities.

Look, you can go to Austin proper or New Orleans proper and walk or bicycle for miles, have access to many coffee houses, eclectic places. Easy to strike up conversation. Lots of interesting things and meetups that are not self destuctive. Old interesting buildings. Most cities are not like this, and DFW is included in this cluster.

You can do that in Houston as well.
