I guess 100,000 population is a "magic number" for a lot of retailers.
Personally I'd like to see Costco come in...though they might bury Sam's Club by doing so.
And I'm still waiting for something like Bonefish Grill ... I'd like a decent selection of non-fried fish.
I don't recall seeing much conversation about the Wal-Mart proposal along 33...what do you guys think? My concern is if Wal-Mart abandons their current site, as they've done around the country when they build a new store in an area that won't support two Wal-Marts.
There is no doubt that Greenville will be at 100,000 alot sooner than later, if it's not from people moving in then certainly from expanding the city limit borders. I don't know the exact number but in the 2000 census the city pop. was 60,476 and now 9 years later it's almost 80,000. won't be long at all!
I can expect Greenville to take the entire town of Winterville...LOL Greenville should me able to support two walmarts because Wanye County can support three (two in Goldsboro & one in Mt. Olive) and the population is higher in Pitt County!
It's all about the demographics...if /when Greenville hits 100,000, many more retailers will look into the area. I'm still surprised Macy's hasn't come to the area...I sure see plenty of their commercials on TV.
I see commercials for Ikea but they aren't coming to Greenville (maybe it's because they are coming to Charlotte)!

How can Goldsboro have three Wal-Marts? I know they do...but Goldsboro has less people than Wilson don't they? (wilson 47,000)
But yeah, Greenville can easily support to Wal-Marts

The director estimates will require about $3 million to complete the project. Fenton noted that the state is tightening the budget across the board, but said he refuses to be discouraged.
