CSU Pueblo lost today in a close game but it was close only after Bonner, the starting QB, was sacked and broke his thumb. At that point Pueblo was in the lead and looking great. After the injury the quarterback was never the same and you could tell the team struggled. I know it sounds like sour grapes but honestly how many teams can win a playoff game with their starting QB injured like that? Not many and that includes the Broncos.
That being said I think CSU Pueblo needs to demand the RMAC raise the scholarship limit to 36 like the rest of D2 or leave the conference for the Lone Star Conference. If Pueblo would have had more scholarships perhaps they would have had a better back up quarterback to play once Bonner was injured.
This is what is being posted somewhere else about the game:
"We'll have to see how CSU-P does with a couple offensive lineman out. Backups have gotten a lot of time this year due to both blowout games and various injuries, but starters are just that for a reason. Players have stepped up all year, they'll have to do so again."
Kickoff is tomorrow at noon for what will be the last home game of the season. If Pueblo wins tomorrow they will play away for the semi final game then it would be to Kansas City for the national title game. I will be at the game tomorrow and will post pictures tomorrow night.
Yes the pack did not show up today so no back to back national titles for Pueblo. Maybe next year they can win it again.
