Jazzli, I already told you about all of these schools, remember?
You mentioned that you wanted a college with a Latino presence. See I remember you, Bronx girl right?
Try Mercy College, in Dobbs Ferry. It's diverse, and it has your major. www.mercy.edu 32% Hispanic 29% African America 27% white 2% Asian
Pretty good mix.
By contrast -
Manhattan College is a little pseudo-preppy, suburban. 12% Hispanic 68% white 3% African American 3 % Asian
He doesn't want an east coast school either. He wants to go into actuarial science, which he can do with a math major but programs that are approved by the Society of Actuaries usually have a system in place so the kids can graduate having taken the first 2-4 exams and they have connections with places for internships and jobs when they graduate. He has about 5 schools around here that he is considering. His dream school is Notre Dame and if he gets in there and he gets big bucks to attend, he will go there. He has the grades and test scores to do that but they have about 25,000 applicants for 2000 spots....
We just found another one for both the kids, Carroll College in Helena, MT. On paper a great fit for both kids.
golfgal, I haven't read the whole thread, so maybe it's been mentioned and discarded, but has he looked at Kenyon?
FWIW, re:rudeness/attitude, I had a similar experience with Grinnell, Carleton, and with St. Olaf, actually...the whole elitist attitude/rudeness factor when I visited each of those turned me off immensely, and was partially what led me to the comparatively much more down to earth and personable Gustavus.
That's interesting, to say the least. My DD was interested in Gustavus b/c they have a gymnastics team. When we toured there, the gymnastics coach was not available. They said she'd call, but she never did. We toured St. Olaf almost as an afterthought, b/c we were in MN, and that's where DD ended up. She thought it would be a better "fit" for her anyway.
That is funny because all other accounts say that Drake is in a really not so nice area of Des Moines. We have twins that are juniors in high school and it came up on their match lists as a fairly high match so just looking for first hand, or close to first hand information.
Those student review sites are ok but generally not all that informative because kids downgrade schools because they got arrested for being drunk and other things that really are not relevant.
About Drake, was there about 2 years ago for the Junior Olympics with my son. I thought some of the campus was not quite as well cared for as it could have been. Example: One of the main signs was missing a letter(s). It just looked a bit run down to me. Especially after having seen so many absolutely gorgeous and meticulously maintained college campuses on our tours.
So I got accepted by 3 school. Baruch College, NYIT and PACE University. All of them are in NY as my goal is to live in NY.
Note: I'm an International applicant from South East Asia.
I want to ask if there's anyone familiar with those 3. I planned to study bachelor for international business affair. I haven't decide which marjor I'd go yet. Struggling between marketing and management. Obviously, tuition fee would be a problem, but not really huge. Baruch ranked #24, PACE ranked #170 and NYIT ranked #68 according to USNews.
Back in my time, I studied in public school, private school and huge intuition private insititute already so I kinda know well enough about the difference study atmosphere.
It seems Baruch would be the best choice because of its rank. But again, it's a public school. I may know about the different in my country but I don't know about US.
Which school would be a better choice for me? In term of good academic course, internship, and the chance to get a job after I graduate (of course this depends on my luck and my grade. But...)? And for this kind of major, should I study higher to master or bachelor and go get a job, have some experience for resume and then take a part time master?
I agree with another poster, Gustavus Adolphus is a good school with little 'tude.
Also, Earlhan in Indiana.
Earlham, in Richmond Indiana, is a terrific school. I know a bunch of people who attended there and they loved it and they are all doing really interesting things now to boot. It's small, academically rigorous and I think it prepares folks really well. It was a close second choice for me in terms of undergrad way back when I was applying to colleges.
Hey everyone, any thoughts on Russell sage college, for psychology and education. My guidance counselor recommended me for something that could give me 20k to attend but the size of the school is throwing me off a bit. i will visit buy if anyone has any info i'd lovr to know
