And here I sit in New England, getting ready to go to work for my night shift (time and a half!) and my dogs are shuddering under furniture thanks to local kids setting off noisy things. Why don't they go into Boston with the other 500,000+ people to watch the fireworks over the river? (I did so in Bicentennial year, 1976. A drunken Irishman picked me up and carried me around on his shoulders so I could see. Ah, to be young and cute again!)

I'm supposed to be in Ouray, with friends, watching the fireworks in Ouray. Grr. One year we needed parkas. Here, it's to be 95 and humid for a week.
I complain all summer long (in case no one has noticed). I start on Memorial Day and stop on August 31.

Next year this time, I intend to be in Ouray. No bad dog bite to keep me out of work for several weeks, and a kick in the butt for not having more savings and for using up my time off carelessly, hence, no time or money for a trip this year. I know the fireworks can be cancelled for a high-fire-risk season, and hope that won't be July 4, 2011.

Happy birthday, everyone!

You have PMS.... Permanently Muggy Sump, which pretty much describes east coast weather, BTDT, for 57 years.

Happy 4th to you. We've a bottle of Schramsburg chilling in the fridge for later after fireworks at the USAF Academy.

54 degrees and raining here in Louisville. Lsvl didn't have any fireworks due to a budget problem, so we went over to Broomfield. Waited and waited in the rain, finally the "yellow light" went on at 9:30, meaning a possiblility of a cancel, so we came home. Kind of disappointing, but we did see Thornton's fireworks (we think) from a distance.

One July 4, my sister and I were driving I-70 from Denver and at a higher altitude, had a brief whiteout squall. Tourists were leaping out of their cars barefoot and in shorts. Two hours later, you could see the fresh snow glinting off the peaks.
The first time I went to Ridgway, it was Memorial weekend, and there was fresh snow for our first ride in the morning.
I do insist that summers in the Northeast have gotten increasingly sticky and grey, and less sunny/hot. Murky. Mildew. Rotting vegetation outside. feh.

Vail had it's 4th of July parade snowed out with six inches back in 1996 or so.

I was in downtown Pueblo for the 4th. I did not take any pictures but this was from the Chieftain:

BTW, I am the one in purple with the towel around my neck. This is one of the benefits of living in a city as its fun to attend major events in downtown with thousands of other people. As Pueblo grows and the Riverwalk gets more development along with a few highrise's in the financial district downtown Pueblo will be a even better place to be for major events. BTW it did not rain till 12:30 and even when I left the firework show at 10:30 to light my fireworks it was still around 80.

More than 10,000 people filled the slopes of the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk of Pueblo and the sidewalks of Main Street and Grand Avenue Sunday night to enjoy more than four hours of music followed by a spectacular fireworks display marking the nation’s birthday. And it only cost $2 a person.

That's too bad - at least you saw something

They went ahead with them here in Longmont - raining and all. We decided not to go over but we live so close to the fairgrounds I could see them from my bedroom upstairs anyway. Our poor dog - I have never seen such a big dog shake so hard in my life.

My 4th sucked! Fireworks got cancelled and a hail storm made my wife's white SUV look like a golf ball!

This is why I am glad I live in the Banana belt. Sure at times it can be annoying when I want snow or rain but overall Pueblo has better weather then most cities in the state for major events. I mean last night I had no clue everyone else had rain till a friend told me as it was nice with temps in the 90's early cooling off to the 80's with a light breeze. Then at 12:30 when it did rain it was perfect to make sure all the fall off from the "illegal" fireworks was out since Pueblo is good about the 4th and does not enforce that lame law.
