KEEP IT SHORT, SWEET, AND TO THE POINT!!

1)Current City and State = McAllen, TX

2)Why do you want to leave =WEATHER!

3)Where In Colorado and Why =Lakewood, because my job transfer was either there or Raton, NM. Lakewood has more of the amenities I want. Sports, movies, games, mountains, etc.

4)2nd and 3rd Place States =maybe Tennesee, also between San Antonio and Austin, TX

5)What’s currently holding you back from moving =Nothing!! I should be there August 2nd!!

6) Anything else you want to tell us that we dont know? = I watch alot of TV, yet still very outdoorsy. Hate humidity!! I don't have family here, so I will be the first to hopefully plant the flag and have other family members visit and perhaps persuade them to move up.

Great thread JC! So glad you started it.

1) Current City and State = Largo, Florida

2) Why do you want to leave = hot, humid, cockroaches, hurricanes, sink holes, oil spill, high homeowners insurance, no mountains, no fall colors, no snow...and I'm sure there's a few more reasons I'm not thinking of.

3) Where In Colorado and Why = thinking about Manitou Springs, Colorado Springs, Golden, Canon City, Estes Park...and probably a few others.

4) 2nd and 3rd Place States = we'd also thought about Tennessee, a little about Arizona and New Mexico, but it definitely looks like Colorado will be the place.

5) What’s currently holding you back from moving = Wanting something different and being afraid of it at the same time...how will we really feel about the winter? We don't want to pick the wrong place and have to move again.

6) Anything else you want to tell us that we dont know? =[/quote] We want to move to a 'real' town...or just outside of one...not sprawling suburbia. We don't want a real long...or a real cold winter...or too much gray. I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago...now that was one heck of a long, cold, gray winter.

Aw, thanks to both of you! A couple of weeks ago we went up for a visit. I think we drove through Rye on our way to Bishop's Castle. It's a pretty little town for sure. I'll have to check house prices and see if there's anything in our range.

Both of us are only comfortable living below our means (which are fairly meager to begin with). There's one place in Boone, where his parents live, that's dirt cheap. We're hopefully going to look at it this weekend and see if we think it's livable.

As long as it's safe, I don't care much about living in a 'desireable' area. I'd much rather have extra money for emergencies, to go see and do interesting things, and someday soon (I hope!) to spend on little ones.

Do you have any idea how refreshing your attitude is after reading literally thousands of posts to the tune of.... 'can you please tell me of someplace really cool where I can do really hip and fun things all the time and buy a big house with lots of acreage near the best schools ever in history for 150k as soon as I can move out there and find a job...'

Default For Pookie and Kansas Sky...

...or for anyone who is looking for a great Colorado town that is very AFFORDABLE has wonderfully mild winters and maintains a lot of rich character and history:

Canon City is your town!

I have looked long and hard throughout the entire state of Colorado and Canon City is the closest to perfection i have found in terms of fitting those 3 criteria (which were my search criteria as well).

) Current City and State = Orange County, CA

2) Why do you want to leave = State is broke, over congestion everywhere, search for a better area to raise kids where the emphasis is not what your mom and dad drive

3) Where In Colorado and Why = still researching, Colorado Springs & Ft Collins seems to be on top of the list so far

4) 2nd and 3rd Place States = Also looking at Oregon

5) What’s currently holding you back from moving = Still researching and trying to figure out when the best time would be to sell our home - but now is not the time, at least I hope the market goes up again

6) Anything else you want to tell us that we dont know? = love this site - the information and posts are very helpful.

1)Current City and State = Pottstown, PA

2)Why do you want to leave = Semi-retired, so can live anywhere. Had enough of the northeast "cactus up the ass" attitude.

3)Where In Colorado and Why = Larimer County. Still want to work and the Ft. Collins to Denver corridor seems best for the science field.

4)2nd and 3rd Place States = Eastern Oregon or hill country near Austin

5)What’s currently holding you back from moving = Want to sell home.

6) Anything else you want to tell us that we dont know? = Have lived in several parts of the U.S. and Colorado is where I always wanted to finish.

1)Current City and State = Ashburn, VA

2)Why do you want to leave = People, horrible, horrible traffic, no sense of community or kindness, cost of living (we are paying more to rent a 2-bedroom apt than most people pay for mortgages!), lack of parks/outdoor spaces in the overcrowded Washington DC metro area.

3)Where In Colorado and Why = Denver, CO. My job (federal government) agreed to transfer me to their Lakewood office and I've always dreamed of living in a city!

4)2nd and 3rd Place States = Northern California? Maybe Portland, OR or somewhere in Washington state? The Pacific Northwest seems to hold a certain allure for me.

5)What’s currently holding you back from moving = Nothing! Will be in Denver on July 17th.

6) Anything else you want to tell us that we dont know? = I've grown up on the East Coast and feel that the Washington DC area tends to drain the life and vitality from people. I despise the humidity, the near-constant gridlock on the roads, and the general rudeness that most people exude. Looking forward to a new start, a new way of life and meeting new people!

WRXGirl, those are all the same reasons we left Chantilly, VA for COLO SPGS back in 2005. What a marvelous change it's been.

1)Current City and State = Culver City, CA

2)Why do you want to leave = Los Angeles is an armpit, public school education has gone downhill, cost of living is ridiculous, we crave a slower lifestyle, we have a teenager who has declared that she wants to go to Univ. of CO at Boulder and while we don't mind the first year of out-of-state tuition we will love paying less once we live there.

3)Where In Colorado and Why = Somewhere in Boulder County, possibly Louisville or Lafayette, close enough to Boulder without paying Boulder prices.

4)2nd and 3rd Place States = New Mexico (family there) and Oregon

5)What’s currently holding you back from moving = waiting for the right job opportunity and paying down debt before we move, daughter hasn't graduated yet

6) Anything else you want to tell us that we dont know? = We are really looking forward to the move!
