Grand Junction has within 45 minutes high alpine lakes, forests, Powderhorn resort, 36+ wineries, 3 distilleries, too many to count brew pubs, river life along the Colorado, but it’s mostly high desert and if you enjoy that, it’s a great place.

I visited GJ last summer for a retirement location hunt. I mainly wanted to test out the summer heat. It hit 107 while I was there. The combination of the sun intensity at 4500 ft plus the heat was a little much (esp with pre existing heart "complications ") to convince me to move there. Also a little more remote than I liked. But the Grand Mesa and the Redlands area were very nice. Plus the National Monument.

Altitude with health conditions are a bad combination. The 107 was the hottest day last summer. Bummer you visited on that day. We find the heat reasonable compared to other similar communities in Arizona, New Mexico and Southern Utah.

Grand Junction airport now is the busiest on the Western Slope at almost 500,000 passengers beating Montrose and Aspen.

The site tells me I cannot post any more pictures unless I delete some. So for now, let me know if you have any questions about the western slope. Pictures may have to wait until I find the time to delete some stuff.
