I don't know why but, this has always been one of my favorite buildings in North or South Carolina. Glad to see it being brought back to life.
When I was on Main St recently, I noticed a lot of great architecture in the buildings. Hope the renovations brings these details back.
The facade improvement program has helped with that. I'd love to see the original facades restored for other buildings (King's Jewelers, Drake's Duck In, Sports Action, etc.).
What about the Obama gas station on Main Street? I got a kick out of seeing it the other day. We just moved to Fort Mill the first of the year and decided to take the kids to the zoo over spring break. We went down the long stretch of Main Street to get back to 77 and I had to laugh when I saw it. Are conservatives allowed there?

Now that's a WHOLE different part of Main St.
And not to worry. It's not ideological. The folks who owned it would have named it Koala Bear On A Pogo Stick Express if they thought they'd bring more folks in by doing so.
City Council will consider a proposal to have daytime street performers on Main Street and Sumter Street with possible expansion to the Vista and Five Points, and not just for special events.

I think that will be cool - there aren't enough street performers in town now so this will give them a jump start. They should still be allowed to accept tips, though. I see the suburbanites are voicing their opinions on the WIS website - I guess they've run out of things to complain about.
