The State is reporting this morning that the Starbucks coming soon signs on the Schulte-United building was a Halloween prank. gsupstate must have swung through Columbia on Halloween.
Someone is so desperate to make it look like a struggling Main Street has become a center of energy that they are posting FAKE coming soon signs. One coming soon sign was just recently posted on a building stating that Starbucks is coming to Main Street. Starbucks has no plans to open on Main per the corporate headquarters. See link to story:

So is it some landlord that posted this FAKE coming soon to drive up rents? Is it the city that posted this FAKE coming soon to give the impression there is more energy on Main? Any ideas?
If you didn't have me on ignore you'd see I figured you put the sign there. I find it very highly coincidental that you're right on top of the story the moment it's in print. I think whoever put the sign there figured they could use reverse psychology to make it seem as though, once it was discovered it was a prank, Main Street isn't happening after all.

Interesting use of words and theory........how in the world do you suggest Main is struggling based on ONE prank? Pathetic.
Besides, if you read the article, there is already a Starbucks on Main.
Another major exhibition is opening at the Columbia Museum of Art. The art museum, Tapp's Art Center and the Arcade Artist Studios make for a new arts corridor on Main Street. Don't forget to shop at Mast General Store and eat at Cowboy Brazilian Steakhouse. In the spring make sure to do all these things and then take in a movie at the Nickelodeon art house. If you need to kill some time in between make sure to stop in at Starbucks in the Sheraton.

The City Center Partnership has a YouTube video on their website about their organization and the revitalization of the CBD. The video is a little bit dated, but it gives a good overview of the progress and future of downtown.
