I like that idea, the surrounding area has seemed basically unused for years, now, anyway...

Council like the ideal of selling the tower and have the developer turn it into mix-use. A judicial building will be built were the wings are... The admin building could possibly be built by golden park.

Council has approved a plan to purchase the former Virginia College building located between Bickerstaff Realty office and Goo Goo car wash on Veterans. The decision is spurred by the need for additional office space once the GC redevelopment begins, which this 70,000 sq/ft building will go a long way towards filling.

By purchasing, instead of renting a temporary space, it seems that a large chunk of city jobs will be permanently relocated to this location, so give up any idea of ever going to 13th St BBQ right at noon ever again.

Horrible decision. They probably already know the SPLOST will fail next November.

I’m not going to say that was a horrible decision and don’t be so quick to think the SPLOST is going to fail.Everyone I’ve talked to is for it.

I agree. From what I've heard is that after the new GC is completed, some number of the relocated jobs are going to return to it. One option for the city to use this new building will be to create satellite offices for public facing departments, a tag office for example.

About the SPLOST, every bit of conversation I've heard regarding it has been positive, there's even some support for enacting an additional 1%, though I don't think the city is going to risk trying to push that and is content with just keeping the status quo.

Where is this positive talk coming from? At best I have only heard mixed reaction for the SPLOST. Also remember that the SPLOST will be voted on during a presidential election.
