They got quite a great deal on it at $2.6 million, when it was listed $3.2 million. Also, I'm all for moving some government services to North Columbus. Obviously, they're going to leave the courts down there, but if they moved (any of) Engineering, Finance, Elections, Human Resources, Inspections and Code, Planning that would free up a ton of space.

Engineering, Inspections, Planning, and similar have all been in the annex building on Veterans for years and years now, doubt they go anywhere. And Elections is over on Macon Rd.

Sorry, I looked at the list wrong, didn't realize the address was different than GC. https://www.columbusga.gov/departments

I was basically saying everything not courts, fire, public safety, administration can be moved. It would of been better deal to buy Carmike Building and be closer, but bringing those jobs to North Columbus will only help. Maybe they'll use that roundabout on River Road

Looks like they want to relocate the Department of Health here. That's a very horrible idea but they'll do what they want.

Why is this a terrible idea?

A large majority of those that use services at it's current location live within 10 miles of the Department of Public Health building, transportation is an issue and many rely on public transportation, and it's close location to the county hospital (Midtown Medical Center) is key.

All of this in mind, moving it to North Columbus close to nothing, and a 2 hour bus ride just doesn't make any sense.

I thought they were just planning on moving the office staff working in the government center. You're saying that the plan is to close the two health centers off Talbotton Rd and move the public clinics up to the Virginia building? That's senseless.

Told y'all it's a horrible idea. They want the health department building as their admin building. Either the estimates for the judicial center and admin office is off the charts or they know the splost wont pass.

Yes, that seems to be what they're saying based off last nights meeting.
