When they got 3 feet in Baltimore 11 months ago, not only did they live without heat for weeks but food and drinks were running low and some simply ran out in their house...no heat...no food because of the snow and impassible roads ... And the media covers Haiti more.

For 1 foot, just simple necessities, 2 feet I'd stock up on everything just in case... 3 feet I'm buying extra.

I don't understand the graphics. I live in southern Hartford County and the NWS in NY shows a couple of miles away from me in northern Middlesex County with a prediction of 22 inches. The Taunton NWS shows southern Hartford County in the 16 inch range. ?

Yes. Scroll up to the map with the red colors... you'll see your location there. Dont ask why NWS splits CT like that.

I find it strange that the NWS isn't in agreement on snow totals. Extreme southern Hartford County and extreme northern Middlesex County should be in agreement as they are literally next door neighbors. I guess they let each NWS office predict their own thing.

It looks like from Bridgeport on east that OKX map of yours Cambium shows 18+" of snow, but "only" 9 or 10 inches around NYC.

The other one hasnt been updated for hours but based on track it looks right that Hartford county gets less than Middlesex.

The 22.1 you see for Middlesex is mostly for central and southern middlesex...northen might see 18.

If Northern Middlesex gets 18, Southern Hartford county can get 14... It all depends on where the bands setup...

Thats why snow total numbers are not written in stone. Its not like rain.

Thanks for the explanation, Cambium. I find meteorology fascinating and am always bugging my meteorologist friend with weather questions!

This looks pretty big. They're talking about highway closures if this storm lives up to its expectations.

I agree with Cambium - unless something changes and this storm heads out to sea, stay home tomorrow folks (unless you're law enforcement, EMT, etc). Snow day.
