Has anyone been to Brasserie Pip in Ivoryton? I've heard it's one of the best if not the best restaurant in the state but have never been, nor do I know anyone who has been there.

Edit: Looks like the well-regarded chef they had left last year, and the place has been getting iffy reviews since then. Oops. They do say he opened a restaurant in Simsbury - any idea which? (Tyler Anderson is the chef's name)

Edit #2: OK, he opened Millwright's in Simsbury.. Looks like it got a NYTimes review:

I went to Plan B last night and was blown away. So much better than Prime 16!

Is there some way to make the wisdom in this thread more digestible (forgive the pun)? I'm so thrilled to know where people's favorites are, but going through 64 pages is a little unwieldy for me. JayCT or anyone else - any ideas?

While I'm here, I'll throw in my local 2 cents:

Fairfield:
Italian - Quattro Pazzi (pasta)
Chinese - Hunan Pavilion (they have a Chinese menu - written in Chinese - with much more authentic fare, but their American-Chinese is also very fresh)
Hot Dogs - Rawley's (beats Super Duper Weenie by a mile imho)
Thai/Mixed Asian - Planet Noodle - really excellent pad Thai and papaya salad

Bridgeport:
Vegetarian - Bloodroot (really flavorful and interesting food, even for non-vegetarians, but the proprietor's got quite a grouch going on)
Vietnamese - CN Station

Milford:
Chinese - Lao Sze Chuan - phenomenal, authentic Szechuan food

Stratford:
Vietnamese - Vietnam Palace - best Pho in the area in my opinion, proprietors are lovely

Westport:
Hearty Locavore - LeFarm (this was my favorite special occasion restaurant, but I don't know how it is since Bill Taibe left as executive chef - anyone have input on this?)
Seafood - The Whelk (raw bar and cooked items - same question re: Bill Taibe having left)

Last edited by Stylo; 06-16-2013 at 12:25 PM.. Reason: Lao Sze Chuan in Milford, not Orange :)

It would be tough to compile. I'd recommend using the "search this thread" tool to find particular cuisines or towns.

Guys, if you want authentic southern BBQ, try Smoke & Bones in Derby. It's a hole in the wall but their food is absolutely amazing. I stopped there the other day for lunch and had a beef brisket sandwich and some BBQ wings. Damned good.

Welcome to Smoke & Bones BBQ!

I'll have to try it again and maybe get what you got. I got a pulled pork sandwich and was totally underwhelmed.

Uncle Willie's in West Haven was pretty solid though.

Never been to Uncle Willies...I'll try that.

I've never been to Smoke & Bones but stopped while passing through on 34. I can't wait to go back and try something different. Maybe breakfast next time?

Uncle Willie's is the closest to real southern BBQ I've had in CT. Even the look of the place reminds me of southern joints, the sides, the tea in styrofoam cups, it's like a carbon copy. I believe one is opening in Fairfield and there's another location in Seymour. West Haven is the original.

I really like Joey C's in Milford too. They try to do more of the Texas thing, but it's pretty solid.

There's also Cast Iron Soul that was in New Haven, now in Hamden. It isn't BBQ, but it's awesome southern comfort food.
