I don't think it was a matter of being popular, but rather it being really cheap food for a small space like that. I think if they did takeout too, the meatball thing might've worked.

Apparently Avro closed already, which is crazy. Maybe the new concept was just a trial balloon to see if they should renew the lease or not.

Yeah, who knows. The business is for sale.

The food and branding was good, but there's not much to differentiate it from Prime 16. Also, I think fans of the Meatball house felt slighted.

Because it was disgusting and their management was arrogant. They can't possibly have thought serving a mediocre Italian staple in New Haven would fly, did they?

I, for one, am glad they shut down. I hope they lost a lot of dough, too (I'm sure you remember my experience there, Stylo).

I went to Geronimo in New Haven and was very impressed with their food. Delicious jalapeno cornbread to start, $3 for chips and [excellent] salsa, good mixed drinks and the entrees - what we all had - were fantastic.

Anyone else go there before? I might even put it up against Mezcal as my favorite Mexican place - though Geronimo is more Texmex.

Joey C's in Milford is a Texmex gem. Cool roadhouse atmosphere and outstanding food.

There's a Geronimo in Fairfield now on Post Road just south of downtown.

In my opinion, Frank Pepe's pizza is the best I've ever tasted. Crunchy crust. Savory spices. Flavorful cheeses. Not sure how Domino's continues to exist with Frank as an option. Is it the marketing of Domino's?

I don't think any of the national pizza chains do well in CT; in fact, it's hard to find a Pizza Hut anywhere. Just too many local, stellar options for pizza. Check out the July 2014 issue of Hartford magazine..."Top 60" pizza places in and around central CT. Pepe's was #1 and CPK was the only national chain that made it.

The only place I've been to that touches Pepe's is Totonno's in NYC.
