not EVERYONE is friendly at all in Connecticut.
there are alot of bullies across the state sadly.
near NYC is probably much nicer & safer than say central CT, Hartford county.
lots of shootings & murders happening there lately.
wudn't call that friendly OR safe!

There is nothing false about it!
you never watch the news Stylo?
obviously not...lots of shootings in Hartford lately on the news.
Why is that such a problem for you to read Stylo & Stratford, CT resident???
This is a city-data site.
Data means facts, not fiction.
Oh, I get it...same ole, same ole. god forbid people tell actual
facts on the CT forum..
Strange....

Do yourself a big favor OP, don't move to Connecticut.
You'll end up really regretting it.
Connecticut's way too expensive & gives you so little basic freedoms
like Freedom of Speech even.
It's been an oppressive state for quite awhile now.
The probate court & worker's compensation system is a nightmare too!
You don't want to get hurt on the job in Connecticut or retire here either. You'll go thru the wars.
So many people ended up permanently disabled getting hurt on the
job in Connecticut sadly enough.
This is the Insurance Capitol of the world, so don't get a Blue Collar job here, it's too risky, if you get hurt!
It takes people years too, to get Disability benefits! Too risky in these tough times OP!
GOOD LUCK to ya, OP!

Thank you to everyone for your gracious and kind responses. I think I am becoming a product of the "hype". I was raised in an Italian American/Jewish South Jersey neighborhood, one the first black families that moved into the neighborhood and NEVER had a problem with racism. My family was embraced by the entire community because we were a decent and kind family. It seems the older I get the more I am focusing on race.

You referred to yourself as different in your post so I would imagine hou already anticipate being treated differently. If you move here, be open, be real when approaching your neighbors, and look for organizations to belong to where you won't feel different.

You should consider Stamford.

It's the wealthiest and one of the most ethnically diverse places in the state. The city has areas that are very urban (albeit very few and rather small rundown areas that are not even rundown by other cities standards, lol), but most of the city area is suburban and there are even exurban areas in the northern part. The city is also the safest of all the major cities in the state and one of the safest in the whole country for cities its size.

If you are going to be working in Manhattan, Stamford facilitates the commute by having an express train that goes directly to Grand Central Terminal in Midtown (very close to the Chrysler Building.) Along the way it makes one quick stop at 125th Street (Harlem.) Once in the city, you can easily get where ever you are going via subway, bus, taxi, walking,

Here are a few photos I have taken around the city:

I think we all are as we are seeing the death spasms of racism and homophobia making a last desparate stand manifested in the political paranoia of people who reject change. Connecticut is a great state. Save me a seat!
