This is huge news! Lamont and even Malloy deserve a lot of credit for making big strides towards fixing Connecticut's fiscal mess.

It's a mess they made. Connecticut is rarely ranked in the top 25 in state economic conditions, You have Fortune 500 companies fleeing the state and you're giving them pats on the back. Good grief.

This just means they have raised high taxes enough to get a better bond rating. Bad for jobs and the people who pay taxes.

What taxes have been raised in the last two years? Doesn’t this mean we may actually be able to CUT taxes in the near future? I’d say that’s worth a pat on the back especially since neither were responsible for creating the mess in the first place. Jay

This is truly great news. What’s even better is that the state’s Rainy Day Fund is now projected to go up to an astonishing $3.7 billion. That’s unprecedented. Could we actually see a tax cut in our future? Five years ago that was inconceivable. Jay

LOL. Fleas think they own the dog:

1- CT is enjoying the side-effects of Cuomo / DiBlasio's policies -- many NYers are relocating and buying homes in CT. Close enough to commute 1-2 days per week, and lot cheaper than Westchester, NJ or LI.

2- As a blue state, CT is getting a healthy dose of dopamine -- from the Feds 1.9 trillion "American Rescue Plan." Anybody who thinks this is great needs to go back to 3rd grade.

CT's economic fundamentals are as bad (if not worse) than before. It's just that now CT has tethered its boat to the sinking ship of the Federal Govt finances.

Be careful, Henry. You are not drinking the CT koolaid. Bob Prince called this Fed spending spree as "state capitalism". They want people to feel fat, rich and happy. We are more reliant on Fed everyday.

State capitalism is when the state owns everything and provides for its citizens. Basically Soviet Union. The state would be the capitalists, that is not even close to what we have.

Don’t preach to me about Red verses Blue fiscal policies. Neither has actually shown any fiscal restraint really. It was the Republicans that gave the rich in our country a massive tax cut three years ago with no way to pay for it. That added trillions to our National Debt for nothing more than giving more money to wealthy Americans like the Walton family so they could go out and buy yet another piece of overpriced work of art to add to their collection.

You also seem to forget that during the 20 plus years of Republican Governors in our state we added a state income tax and had multiple deficits. It was Republican Governor Jodi Rell who borrowed $1 billion to balance her budget. More recently the Republicans proposed raiding the Rainy Day Fund and then borrow billions more to rebuild our transportation system. How is that fiscally sound?

The current fiscal condition of our state has NOTHING to do with direct payments from the American Rescue Plan because that hasn’t even been implemented yet. We have been posting budget surpluses and adding to our Rainy Day Fund for several years now, long before there were any rescue plans were needed.

There has been a LOT of hate given toward Dannel Malloy when he was Governor but you can’t deny he made a lot of tough decisions and stuck to his guns with a modestly conservative budget. Without that our state would not be seeing the benefits we are today. Jay

Sure, call it whatever you want if it makes you feel better. Going from 10T to 22T in debt last 10 years tells a different story.
