I don't know who this fellow is but it looks like good news for the Bridgeport & New Haven area.
I posted that on the New Haven Development thread. Jay

Because it has never make sense to pay people more to do nothing.

Take away that bonus, watch how fast those help wanted signs disappear.
Some states has already realized this and stop the bonus, but don't expect that from CT.

Stamford based developer, Randy Salvatore of RMS Co. is very bullish on Connecticut. The company has numerous projects throughout the state and he notes how well the company is doing. That sounds great. Hopefully he is right. Jay

Appears a done deal. One man's firm owns 23%, he is staying mum. 2nd one owns 3.4%-will vote no. Takes 2/3rd to win. He views value at $18.50/share. $17.25 is offer. $17.24 is current-which is, as expected, flat to offer just 36 hours out. 10 a.m. virtual vote Friday. Alden owns 31%, btw, already.

Analysts expect it to sail through.

It was approved today. Alden Capital will own all of Tribune Publishing, including the Courant.

So after four credit rating agencies have upgraded the state’s credit rating, word is tax revenue have been pouring into the state. This is unbelievably good news. The state is running a whopping $470 million surplus and the Rainy Day Fund is now projected to grow to an unbelievable $4.5 billion. Great news! Now if we can just get the Democrats to stop looking to increase taxes, not spend the surplus and actually consider a tax cut. Jay

Just saw that the Tribune’s stockholders approved the deal. Let’s hope for the best from it. Jay

Alden will make them much leaner in terms of staffing levels, which improves their viability long-term. They are the 2nd largest newspaper chain owner nationally. Gannett is still first.

Their goal isn't to make the viable for the long term - it's to suck as much money out of the papers as possible in the short term. Alden comes in, hollows out the staff, reduces spending, and relies on national stories to print a paper.

Pretty soon the Courant's motto will be "if it was news in NY or LA yesterday, it's news today in Hartford."
