I have never look at jobs a financial "asset." Maybe our balance sheet is wrong?

Privatization of public funds. Just like when Senator Feinstein's husband sells your post office at a sweetheart price to private developers... It's all just socialism for corporations.

I would not look at 1-2 dozen jobs as major assets, but hundreds, thousands, with a 3X supplier multiplier effect is a major asset. It should be bestowed wherever the corp decides is the business climate most conducive to growing its business.

I am delighted corps are now critiquing regional business climates and willing to take action to relo to those conducive to their business model.

Default CT Teachers unions want tax increases on the wealthy

Should CT increase it taxes on the wealthy ? Will the wealthy get upset about tax increase ?

HARTFORD - Two teachers unions are calling on Gov. Dannel Malloy to increase taxes for the state's wealthiest residents.

The American Federation of Teachers and AFT Connecticut say it is not fair that the top one percent only pay 5.3 percent of their income in state and local taxes while everyone else pays 9.9 percent.

The unions say instead of cutting education funding, Malloy should have everyone pay their fair share.

Malloy's has said there could be cuts to school funding as part of the next budget.

Why not? Malloy has shamelessly cut services to schools, hospitals, environmental services and more while giving more breaks to wealthy residents and businesses especially. Ironically, it's just traditional neighborhood schools getting the cuts as privately run, corporately backed charter schools are getting more money.

Anyway, it might be easy to bash teachers but I get their annoyance. They've been forced to pay into the retirement funded which the governor has continuously raided for years yet somehow they are the greedy ones.

More complaining from teachers.....

Its the only profession I can think of where people complain so much yet have 3-4 months off per year and get paid for it (in many cases 75k+ per year). Maybe we should stop paying them such high dollar amounts and make them get a job and contribute to the economy by working June-August. They should realize how much of our town budgets go towards education...and a lot of that money is needlessly spent.

You obviously do not know any teachers or truly understand or appreciate the work they do. Most put in a LOT of hours outside the classroom including weekends and holidays. And the months off are not that much. Summers usually go from the end of June to the end of August so that is only 2 months (remember teachers start several days before students and end several days after). Teachers also must constantly work to improve themselves including going for their Masters Degree and attend professional training. And those teachers that do earn $75,000+ are the ones that have worked a long time. Keep in mind $75,000 is not really a high salary today. So before criticizing them, think what they actually do and have to do each day. And by the way, I am not a teacher nor is my DW. Jay

2 months off is not that much? Please. Most people are lucky if they get more than two weeks vacation. And lets not forget the various vacation weeks sprinkled throughout the school year. I agree with SeaDoo, the constant whining from the teachers unions about being overworked and underpaid gets old real fast.

And raising taxes ain't gonna happen, not after the GE fiasco.

Give me a break. I give teachers a lot of credit, but people in every profession put in a lot of hours outside their 8-4 or 9-5 job. And you don't think 10 weeks vacation is a lot? Consider they also get a week off over the holidays, plus Thanksgiving break, plus other holidays, and April vacation. To make 75k per year (many make much more) to have 12+ weeks off not including weekends, is a TON of time. I can't stand when people say "but the things they do outside the classroom!" Please. They're generously compensated and get amazing vacation time. Their incessant whining gets old.
