Therefore it is a spending increase

Unbelievable!

Amen. Reducing an increase is still an increase; though the pols paint it as a cut.

All of these cuts, while we're providing better parking for bureaucrats, nicer offices, more comfortable cooling and heating, lounges...

When the Bldg is done in 3-4 years, the shiny bling will house a bankrupt state Govt.
But remember, that $79 million wasn't really a "cut"--it was just a decrease in the spending increase for the year. So not so bad.

Yes, I am wrong, you are correct. The technical term they used is "rescission." I should have re-phrased my argument "CT should have re-allocated $ 79 million out of the 181 Million to rescind the rescissions."

To say ct and towns are broke alot of money is still being spent. Road construction alot of places. Nh talking about doing a make over of some downtown streets. Hartford just built (well under construction still) a new baseball staduim. ect ect. Something seem fishy... If you are broke cut all of certain funding. Stop these road projects and towns stop building usually things.

As the article states Connecticut is in the worst financial shape second only to Puerto Rico.

I think Illinois will actually be the first state to default. Maybe 5 years? Then its going to happen to CT.

They will have to default on the pension payments or other bonds but it will happen. I work as an actuary and everyone I work with agrees that a default is inevitable.

Your repeated appeals to authority are not a compelling argument. Do you have anything more convincing?

The sad thing is all states had decades to put into place more reasonable legacy packages that would not have led to this.

Impossible when you are running for election and need the backing of the very public sector unions you need to negotiate with. Textbook conflict of interest.

Imagine you running for office and you need my union to support you. We meet and to get my support you have to make certain promises to me.

Not impossible if the other 1.4 million voters overrode the special interest group known as Public Employee unions.

Also not impossible if you elect someone with integrity, who cares about the state, more than his political office.
