Taking a step away from rails for a bit, I've been baffled by 15 in Wallingford. They've installed a new onramp that's been complete before the better part of a month and a half by now, but remains closed to traffic. I've watched them construct it every day since April (I use this particular onramp, and agree it needed to be replaced) and I'm astonished at how quickly they finished all the work, and how long it's taken to open it. So far it is still closed. The new road is paved, the traffic lights installed and working, new barrier put up, but still the old (unsafe) onramp is in operation. It boggles my mind. No wonder so many projects get stalled and cost so much.

Yea I was wondering the same thing. Also the old on-ramp has a huge mound of dirt blocking a lot of the view to merge on from the stop sign.

Is this mound there because they are going to next build a new off-ramp and need to to grade the road upwards?

According to what I could find (Meriden Record-Journal) they aren't changing a thing with the off-ramp. It is going to stay as-is. They just repaved the offramp, adding a right and left turn lane, so I am inclined to believe this is the case. Seems like the massive mound of dirt is just there for storage. If I had to guess, it will be used to fill in the on-ramp when they rip it up and build up the earth so there's a gradual slope leading up to the surface street.

According to this press release from April, it should be opening this month. Remember that just because it has looked completed for a month now, does not mean it is. The contractor could have other things to do on the ramp (landscaping, grading, drainage, pavement markings, etc.) and they aren't quite ready to open it to traffic yet. Jay

We're due for another Widen I95 study. Any idea when that might be coming?

There's quite a big project going on in downtown New Britain. It includes a rotary, so it seems like rotaries are becoming the new thing.

As New Britain Refreshes Downtown Roads, Traffic Forecast Is: 'Delays' - Courant Community

The gist of the project is changing the bus stop area from the current bank st to columbus blvd which is parallel to CT fast track station and rebuilding the bridge over RT9/72

One thing I always though was weird is currently on bank st there's no street lights, so if you're there at night waiting for the bus, that's not really safe.

Sometime today between 0800 and 1700, the new onramp for 15 in Wallingford was opened. I'm not a fan of how they have it set up, coming from Quinnipiac Street you turn left into two lanes, and the far right lane is the turning lane for the onramp. Other than that, the new flow of traffic is perfect. Zero qualms about getting on the highway. Glad the project is finished (or nearly finished). A great addition to the Wilbur Cross Parkway.

I am glad to hear this but am confused by what you don't like. The ramp is on Hall Avenue. Quinnipiac Street is not near it. Are you talking about coming from Quinnipiac on River Road and having to turn left on Hall to get to the ramp? I am not sure how else this could be done unless the state took land from Lakeside Park and I doubt the town would like that. Jay

I worded it pretty poorly, that is an error on my part.

I am talking about the approach from Quinnipiac Street.

My issue that, once you take the left from River on to Hall, Hall has two lanes for traffic going towards Masonic Ave. Thus, when you turn left from River to Hell you then need to instantly cut across into the right lane in order to continue on to the onramp.
