I think it is important that we continue punishing people over and beyond the sentence of the court and irrespective of whether they have served that sentence.
Yes, I have a problem with rapists or murderers winning the lottery. And this guy is a child rapist. I hope his victims get every penny from his lottery winnings. They've been through enough......
Would it be better if he won the lottery and the raped? I'm not sure what the problem you have is
Is there something wrong with anyone winning the lottery?
Would it be better if if he won the lottery and the committed a crime? It's strictly an irrational emotional reaction to have problem with the lottery winning in the above scenario
Not sure why you're directing the question at me.
I'm just responding to enigma's question to you, to which you already responded.

How is he continuing to be punished beyond the sentence of the court?! The guy got off with a light prison sentence. And then won the lottery. He got off too easy, IMO. The victims have the LEGAL RIGHT to seek damages in the state of Florida. Again, how is he being punished beyond the sentence of the court when the courts decided his victims have a right to sue??? Please explain.
I think some of these posters would feel differently if their loved ones were victimized by this man.............

If my loved one was the victim I wouldn't be mad he won the lottery. Would I be mad over the crime? Absolutely, the plea? Sure, the punishment? Of course. What did that have to do with the lottery?
If anything the win is a potential upside for the victim

From your story he was convicted and tried served his time and has evidently reformed his ways, i see no reason to cast derogatory aspersions on his current good fortune.
Very interesting. When some people said the same thing about Michael Vick, too many haters did not want him to EARN any money in the NFL. I wonder why?

Because some people like (love) revenge, as long as it's visited on others and not aimed at THEM.
I so love all those that can sit and pass judgements on people they don't know, cases they only know the barest amount about and situations they know nothing about while ignoring all the slights, insults and probable pain they've inflicted upon others throughout their lives without a second thought.
Now I'm sure I'll get at least one response that says "Well, I've never done anything that horrific to someone" to which I say "in YOUR opinion", which may or may not be the feelings of your recipient.
Yep, get out the rope, light the bonfire there's witches to burn!
