Whoever thought it would ever be a good idea to make a satirical film about assassinating a world leader, regardless of the leader involved.
Yea I get that people should have a sense of humor but to make this film and making the leader an actual person and not fictional, they were asking for it. I don't think many people would find it humorous if another country made film about taking out our leader.
I can think of a few hatemongers at this site (and on both sides of the nation's current polarization, BTW) who would think it a fine idea -- if certain American leaders were the subject matter / target.

Are they idiots, or are they working for short-sighted profit-margineers?
Which is more likely?
Sony leadership saying to their IT Security, "We need more security...here's a blank check" and IT Security saying "Nah, our security is fine" OR Security saying "We need a bigger budget to bolster security" and Sony leadership saying, "That's too expensive--we aren't facing that much of a threat?"
They apparently stored thousands of unencrypted passwords in Excel spreadsheets located in a folder named "Password." I'd say they're just idiots either way.

I don't think it had to do with money, I mean it clearly appears that the network and servers they did have was incompetently secured to begin with. Its basic knowledge that you don't store passwords in unencrypted spreadsheets labeled password. It costs nothing but a bit of knowledge and time to fix basic security issues like that. It costs a trifle amount of money for a company like Sony to segregate sensitive information like copies of company emails, personnel data, etc on a limited access, hardened server. That way even if they got hacked the damage would be limited to just the wider network and the really important stuff would be safe. Totally incompetent IT department.
On the flip side of this, I bet people with IT security resumes floating around are getting calls from several fortune 500 companies, who are silently and quickly trying to prevent this from happening to them. If any of you fit that bill it might be a good idea to start checking around for a sweet opportunity.
Cowardice. Theater owners assumed the American public are so sheltered they wouldn't go to the movies on Christmas Day out of fear of "terrorists" setting off a bomb in Des Moines. Basically any vague internet threat can disrupt our way of life these days.
Actually, theater owners were concerned about being liable should something happen. No doubt even if North Korea or whoever sent those messages didn't do anything someone somewhere would have called in a bomb threat or done something really stupid just because they thought it would be fun.
Now, if only these theaters would refuse to show all these crap movies that continue to be made...
Funny how many people could care less care more today.
Remember this date since this was the day the American world power like a bully got punched in the face and just whimpered away. Just like a bully, other nations (with their hackers or terrorist) who observe this have now officially lost their fear of America and now see it's weak point... all that's needed to take down this world power is the threat of violence. North Korea would have never thought about this in the past but the champ is fading the world knows it. Expect way more similar threats towards or in the US.
Regardless what side of the fence you stand this set precedent where now ANY movie or tv show other nations, let alone Americans who object to almost anything since that seems to be the new norm in america, will now control what you chose for your entertainment. And here all these conspiracy theorist thought it was just our government.
If I was Sony I would have ate the cost and just released FREE online instead, although it's still possible they will release it after Christmas. That would have been more effective to not have theater liability while sticking it more to them.
It is pathetic what we have become. Any losers can threaten us when they get their feelings hurt and we just cower in the corner like a bunch of wusses. Just wave that word "terrorism" once again and it's an automatic rationalization for yet more "security measures" to supposedly "protect" the American people. And Bush and Obama claim the terrorists didn't win
Against my better judgment, I stayed around for the third and final night of SyFy's Ascension. Disappointing miniseries. Anyway, I saw a commercial for this idiotic film recorded on the DVR as late as 9pm CT / 10pm ET last night.
They should release it for free on the internet to download just to PO.
But Sony and the theaters would just have to have 1 guy hurt after watching the movie and some US Lawyer would be filing suits for not pulling the movie.

Blame it on the lawyers.
LOL, yes it's the lawyers fault...same with 9/11 too

It has nothing to do with American "weakness." It has to do with Sony not wanting to tick off its shareholders. That's the only reason the film got canceled. I can guarantee it.
