You cannot compare a mechanic who is on the power side of an inelastic demand, and a line cook. The mechanic charges $100/hr., it is not negotiable! No one is concerned that s/he might not be able to pay their rent because of that. Come on.

Yes I can. And I don't just meekly pay whatever a mechanic says. If they want too much, I get a quote from another mechanic. You just don't want to compare because the comparison blows away your argument. Substitute lawn service worker for mechanic if you think mechanics make too much to worry about rent.

You're right about one thing - when you're on the paying end of the equation you are not concerned about the other person being able to pay their rent or not.

LOL, I think a lot of people find out the hard way that ferreting out the cheapest mechanic in town often costs them money in the long run.

That's their choice to make and it's not your place to attack them for it. Nothing to say about lawn service workers?

And it's not your place to make up wild accusations about "attacking people" just because I understand that you get what you pay for.

I'm sure the business you own is paying high wages and thriving.

Nada; I don't have a lawn at either of my homes. They're both too close to the beach for lawn grass to grow. Pretty sure if I did, though, I'd look for a reliable service from a company that knows what they're doing rather than waste my time looking for the absolute cheapest.

Never had a better year, and we do pay decent wages. Thanks for asking You must be able to say the same, right?

Pretty sure you wouldn't ask the workers about their bills and if the price was enough for them to pay the rent.

Probably wouldn't grill them about their bills and rent, but my point was that I wouldn't automatically gravitate toward the cheapest just because it was the cheapest. Edit: I would, however, pay attention to the company's reputation in the community. A reputation for treating employees badly/unfairly would absolutely make a difference to me.
