Ah now, see? it was light by 6:15 this morning. Isn't that nice? Lately it's been pitch black until 7 a.m. or later Who needs light at the end of a winter day? This is much better.
Then, in summer, we want to be out enjoying the evenings for longer, and it's already light in the morning. Switched back to DST, we can do that.
I am with those who dislike changing clocks twice a year.
And as the clock adjustment is mainly to accommodate school kids having to go to school in the dark, and as the really short days last only about two months at a time (December and January), why not just adjust the school schedules to start an hour later for those months starting after Thanksgiving weekend? This would also not be that much of an inconvenience, I think, because kids are out of school for the two weeks around December 25th anyway.
I liked going to work in the dark, now as I'm leaving to go to work it is getting light (6:15),
by the time I get to work it is light, big deal, I'm going to work. I'd rather have the light after work, but then, I leave work at 3 so I get light anyway.
But now the dark at 5 kinda sucks. I think the week of Christmas here in NY is is dark around 4:30...
When I think about it, how hard is it to really change the clocks twice a year, it really isn't that big of a deal...besides this has been discussed for what it seems like forever, and we all know nothing ain't never gonna happen. DST was abolished in 74 and I don't even think it lasted a year and then it was back to changing the clocks, for some reason it did not work. I believe I was in grade school or middle school....
We have a new digital clock for the kitchen and when I plug it in it automatically goes to the correct time, I don't even have to set it, how great is that.
So, the oven and my watch I change, that's about it. I don't change the clock in my truck as it is so small and I cant see it anyway, so 6 months out of the year it is the right time. LOL, I don't even care.
Come on people, at this point you are exaggerating the effect that changing the clock one hour has on daytime light. If you live in, say, Chicago, the longest day of summer is SIX HOURS longer than the shortest day of winter. Even in Los Angeles where I live, there is a 4 1/2 hour difference between the longest and shortest days.
Fretting about going off DST as the sole cause of darker evenings is just silly. It's winter; it's going to be dark early.

Cross the dip sometime in December. It's still light out in Grand Rapids at quarter to six.
DST is a stupid concept. If you want people to go to school or work earlier, change their schedules!
Changing to permanent DST is even stupider. It won't change how much daylight we have, and will probably cause unpredicted problems and costs. And it will put us out of sync with the rest of the world, just to pretend that noon is 1pm.
I've happily lived for 19 years in the two states (Hawaii and Arizona) that don't participate in the nonsense. Join the sanity! Refuse to change your clocks!

I don’t see how that can be. For example, the time in Germany and in Spain is one and the same despite the distance. 8am in Berlin and in Spain have different solar lighting, but 8am is 8am. Nowhere in the world except in the Western Hemisphere coincides with one of the time zones in the USA.
