I still remember Shakey's Pizza on East Abram in Arlington many years ago. But my family never stopped there, and yet we saw all the commercials on TV. And I'm sure Dallasites remember the Shakey's where they were.

I think it is now a funeral home!

Vickery Park Pool had the scariest high diving board - I doubt anything like that would ever be allowed again - it seemed 10 stories tall. And that huge old wooden building with the lockers - was it also a dance hall ?-- the roller rink Deuback's was up the street.

Anyone remember The Old Church on McKinney south of Knox?

A classmate of mine lives out in L. A. and he's into the mid-century modern stuff so he's always going to garage sales -- he said he found a Deuback's decal out there!

What was the 'dinner' theater next to Olla Podrida - was that Granny's or Windmill or what?

I remember going to the one next to Olla Podrida in high school. It was one of those names - wasn't there one called Country Dinner Playhouse (or something like that), too? My how times have changed!

Granny's Country Dinner Playhouse. I saw Tina Turner there when I was 10 or so and she just broke up with Ike. It was not a G rated show, that's for sure.

You know don't you that Tina jumped out of Ike's car here in Dallas in the I-30 Canyon Downtown and ran up the hill to the RAMADA (what is it now?) next to Old City Park to get help...

I only know of one, Aunt Stelles, southwest of Dallas. Patented sno cone machine that makes snow for the cones. Been around since earlier 1900s. Now owned by Aunt Stelles daughter.

Default Ferrell's

Does anyone remember Ferrell's Ice Cream Parlor in Valley View Mall? We used to go there and Mama liked to hear them sing happy birthday to people and embarrass them. It was also a favorite place to go to with our church groups when I was a kid. We lived in Northaven Terrace Apartments and I still remember the address...2790 Northaven Road Apt. 15-A. That was the nicest apartment we ever lived in when I was a kid. I went to Herbert Marcus Elementary and walked to school every morning. I remember burying our little parakeet "Tweety" right outside the front door of the apartment in the flower bed. GEEZ...where have all these memories been?
