Ironically, I saw this article as I was thinking where would be the best long term area (15-20 years) for me to buy a home and raise a family. Thought it might make for an interesting discussion.
Frisco evolving into destination city - Dallas Business Journal:
So. Dallas, Frisco, Allen, Plano, Mckinney...where would you chose to hunker down?

Of those cities on your list the only one I'd pick would be Dallas. Seriously.
We only go to Frisco for special events like a RoughRiders game. Much easier than going out to Arlington for the Rangers. Or a concert at Pizza Hut Park (KENNY!!! WOO-HOO
). Other than that it holds zilch interest for me or my family to want to live there.

Well as you know I have stated (not that tongue-in-cheek) that I would rather go to IKEA by my sister's house in CA than drive out to Frisco to shop...

Since I have gotten older I have come to the conclusion that I want to live inside 635 not outside of it. I can't wait to convince the wife the sterile burbs no longer appeal to me.

I'd choose Frisco (where I live now), Plano (But only West Plano), or Dallas (But only the Highland Park Area) to live in.
To me, Frisco is definitely a destination city. We have a ton of events going on everyday (sports, concerts, etc.), a ton of shopping and restaurants, everything is brand new basically (which is a good thing in my mind), a ton of really nice neighborhoods, we are really close to Dallas(30-35 minutes from downtown Dallas), and it is a very family-oriented area.

It's all cyclical. While Frisco may be "new" now, in 10-20 years it'll be "old" and suburban sprawl will have moved on to overtake Prosper, Aubrey, Celina, and Van Alstyne with its sights set on Sanger, Pilot Point, and Sherman.
